Fur Affinity Forums vs. Fur Affinity

Perhaps I am wrong but I have always viewed the Fur Affinity Forums to be a subset of Fur Affinity.
Do I have this wrong? If not why are they not tied together more closely? Having to log on separately is annoying though I can see that there may be technical reasons for this. However while there is a link from Fur Affinity to the forums there does not seem to be a link back.
Also there is no obvious link from forum users profiles to their FA User Pages.
And finally why are there Forum users who do not even have FA accounts?

Can anyone please explain what the relationship between Fur Affinity Forums and Fur Affinity is, an is supposed to be?

Your last sentence is the most interesting!
It says exactly what needs to be said. You asked "what is it, and what is it supposed to be?"

Yeah, there's a gap between those two things. The two communities have evolved differently - here on the forums, users came to expect a higher level of discourse and open debate, while on the mainsite the community was a social hubble and bubble where like-minds-attract-like.

One of the problems with this difference is that people on the forums have often rejected new forum users who didn't meet their expectations for discourse. Sometimes, this rejection was overly harsh and even ventured into genuinely harmful measures such as signing forum user's email addresses to receive spam -- but the recent introduction of new rules (and the enforcement of rules by admins!) have made this place a lot calmer and welcoming.

I don't see a problem with users on the forums not having FA accounts so long as they contribute to the community here, and people on FA don't seem to mind who does or doesn't have an account on FAF.

The relationship is really what it's always been - you come here to chat, and you go to FA to play.

Both are owned by the same people, Dragoneer (but officially Ferrox Art, LLC) and bear the same name. Site updates and notifications are also posted here, people also report site related conectivity issues and bugs here.

The reason for them being (or seeming) separate is mostly technical (and also everything that BRN said above). Sites like, for example, SoFurry have been coded from the ground up to also include forum software (they also have a shared database for the "one account for both" thing) in the theme of the site. The FA code is, as we all know, dated and therefore probably won't do well if if we added forums onto the top of it. I do not know for sure if this issue will be resolved with project Phoenix, but I would would personally like forum integration with that.

There is a link back to the mainsite by the way, in the bottom right near the footer. :p

(I may be wrong with some things here, this isn't really much of an "official" response but one that is more knowledgeable about the inner workings as a forum mod than the average user)

Kisses for everyone!
Quite so. Shows how often I scroll that far down.
Any idea why a link back to user's FA pages is no included in the account set-up here?

Well you link back to your page in the account settings, and find others by clicking the paw print underneath the icon/info of their posts. unless that wasn't what you were referring to? :]

The main reason the forum and main site aren't tied together and use the same username and password is because if on goes down it won't take the other with it.

That is certainly one advantage. The forums do run on a different server to the mainsite (even a different building iirc). Perhaps the people running Pheonix could just change the UI to be more consistent between the two (unless vbulletin doesn't allow that amount of customisation). The accounts thing is a kinda minor inconvenience personally, but I do see how people would find it annoying.

SAT study question: FAF is to FA as a dogmongler is to a rapist.

FA = A bed of softness, fur, jizz covered sheets(because they can't clean), and has lots of furry porn hidden in a fancy-ass bedside table!

FAF = A stone bed with chains, cuffs, is surrounded with an 8-pointed star painted with the blood of virgins, and has a dark chest full of necronomicons and XL Bad Dragons.

VBulletin would allow that kind of customisation, and it has been brought up with Dragoneer previously, as to what will happen, nobody knows yet.
