Fursuiting with tinnitus..?

Alright not sure if this would fit in the fursuiting forum so ima just post it here. yeet

basic question: if u have tinnitus and a fursuit, how do you deal with the tinnitus when fursuiting?
ive heard about fursuits making you hear way less, which then would lead to the tinnitus taking over (ree)

i dont expect peeps to respond bc im just tired and wanna write down some things ive thought about for a while

Fursuiting hardly impairs hearing. The only problem would be breathing I guess, but you could easily get a wide mouth suit so ventilation is better, and with better ventilation breathing shouldn't bother you to much.

I don't have a Fursuit yet, I still have to wait nearly 3 more years. But my hearing is impaired and I do have tinnitus. However I still hear a decent amount of output so you wouldn't have to speak seriously loud. Just...maybe slightly louder than usual. But other than that it's no big deal.

However the main "big deal" is Ventilation. If you can tolerate being baked in an Oven, except being baked in a Fursuit, then I think you probably wouldn't need fans built-in. But be sure to drink lots of water. However most people can't handle the heat that well so I highly recommend you add fans to your Fursuit. Only needed in the summer though. Should do good in the Winter.

Thanks for the advice, but I'm not planning on getting a fursuit anytime soon haha (would want one in the future though). This was more of a random question, still appreciate the answer though :)

No way you can get rid of it. You just need to learn to live with it. What helps me - white noise at night.
You can also try to visit hearing aid doctor and discuss possible treatments with him.
Again, it can get better and worse but doesn't go away, as we are talking about a damaged nerve here and it can't be reversed.

If you wanted to get creative you could rip apart a stethoscope and maybe tunnel a hole to the fursuit ears and insert the ear tubes through the holes to offset the sound dampening? Then when you put on the suit, reach under and insert the earpieces and that will let you listen from the suit's ears directly. That way your real ears are connected to the outside world directly and maybe counter the muffling effect better, drowning out the "reeee".

Just a thought from a tired cat so take as you will, but who knows, might help? <grin>

The fact is, if you have tinnitus, you're stuck with it. That is damage to the ear that will not repair itself over time. I've lived with it for close to fifty years, my help to dial it out was wearing hearing aids. I did need them since the F-4D Phantoms I worked on took some of my high pitch hearing away from me. Finally had $4,500 USD to drop on a pair of Phonak hearing aids. Not only do I hear better, the improved hearing seems to partially drown out the constant screech in my head.
