Game Details

DreamGraffiti

So, while I was at my friend's house the other day something occurred to me. He never payed much attention the the small details in Skyrim. I pointed out how the architecture and interiors in the Blue Palace were gorgeous and unique, but he passed the comment off as a waste of time. He just got a few quests and left without even looking up at the ceiling's designs. Some people just don't take the time to enjoy everything a game has to offer. The music, night sky, mountains, interior designs, and the music give a large imprint of the immersion level of a game. It's better to stop and smell the roses while playing the game and enjoy it while you can. Anyone here have the similar thoughts?

(Got a bit of a challenge for anyone who is interested. Next time you play a game take a few minutes and look around a room. You may find a few details that may or may not have realized would be in the game you were playing. Example: Doug Rattmann's Dens)

Nekokami

As cuckoo as a clock.
I often notice little Easter eggs and cool features when playing a game.
For example, I was one of the first to find out that a man in Pokemon X and Y references a character from the previous two games. And I always try to take a look at the smaller details in Mario Kart 8's tracks.

I'm glad someone does the same. You mean how in the sweets track in Mario Kart 8 instead of water it's lemonade.

Yeah! I also notice what the signs on tracks say, and I paid attention to the noises Shy Guys make on Shy Guy Falls.

Hikaru Okami

Radiant Wolf
When playing Tales of the Abyss I noticed a lot of references to past tales games especially Vesperia.
I general I always pay attention to character detail the most. Then I pay attention to music and how they make a theme together. Example I noticed how Knuckles always have theme song that shows just how badass he is or how Sonic theme shows how laid back he is. Not only that the music matches the stages as well. You wouldn't have fast pace music in a calm osis setting in the desert. I also notice changes in pokemon as well. That's why my friends are always surprised when I tell them Jynx used to be black instead of purple.

Pantheros

you are me, and i am you
i pay attention to the characters more than anything. i notice and observe alot of details in the personalitys and characteristics that most people miss. Also all the body gestues, dear god, nobody ever notices or comments about them >:/

The little details are usually what makes a game memorable for me. Guess that's why I keep going back to Skyrim and Fallout. Finding all those journals lying around and the backstory to the random dungeons and buildings and whatnot really gave the games a level of depth and immersion you don't often see. Plus, I think it helps you to better appreciate the work the developers put in to make the game what it is.

You wouldn't be playing a game right if you didn't appreciate every detail.

I believe GTA is one of the best video game series ever conceived, but not because of the violence and sandbox gameplay. Then what's my reason? Try spending a few hours in a car with the radio on. You will not be disappointed.

Oh, I remember a post about how Deus Ex:HR had some pretty cool ceilings:

Looking up isn't something you often to in video games, but they bothered to make the ceilings different to just bland flat colours.

Oh, and here's something to think about in terms of people missing details - it's not uncommon for people to have played dozens of hours of GTA IV and not realised there was a train system where you can go to the stations, but especially the fact there's an underground part in Algonquin. Yes, even though Three Leaf Clover - that big mission where you rob a bank - makes you go on the tracks.
