Critique: General discussion of art styles

So, I just recently tried my hand at art, specifically drawing my OC, went terribly, then slightly less terribly once I repeat watched at tutorial on YT ( thanks very much Stardust Fox very good video) , anyway I had a realisation, it is obviously still very much based upon that unique art style, I've got the lines down, getting there with the fur, but following the same art style to get the basics and detail down is good and all, but again, it is not my art style, which leads to actual question, once you've got the basics, action lines, guides etc, how do make your OWN art style? There are similarities here and there, sure, but you can look at every individual artist and see a pattern, preferred method, and the character design itself, being entirely unique to that person, how did you get to that point, from the basics, tutorials, to your own defined style? Sorry for the paragraph btw

I love you all <3 We had a good run
Just happens as you draw really. You find your own process. Don't overthink it, just keep practicing

"Finding" style is a trap. It's something romanticized by beginner artists.
Style is less about how flashy or how cute you can be to fast track to popularity or raking in commission money. It's more a culmination of how you've learned to convincingly solve problems in a creative manner. You could call it a toolkit developed over years of learning what works for your desired intent and knowing why it's appealing.
It takes years and changes as you adjust your taste and learning habits.

By the sounds of it i should, and am going to go with the flow, but no, I don't have an interest in commissions, or popularity, just trying to find a way to express myself and bring my OC to life, but yeah I do get what your saying, and is similar to the last person who responded, it's patience and a desire to pursue your own artistic path, either way thanks for the input, I'll continue doing as I do, and see where it takes me

I wasn't implying your intentions. Sorry.
That's just the common ambitions of what most people chasing style are.

Oh no no no, i didn't take it the wrong way lol, I was only clarifying for the situations sake, again I've seen examples of what your saying, and I honestly wholeheartedly agree, if your going with the process for the sake of flash, of to garner attention, it doesn't work out for creativity, ultimately, the only one who knows what you want is yourself, and as your saying, it doesn't magically happen, it's a process built up over years of trial and error, like any other facet of creativity, and it's something I look forward to, genuinely thank you for your responses!

One thing it's worth noting about developing a personal style is its absolutely something you can't avoid. Like if you keep drawing it will happen weather you put any effort in or not. Everyone will always have unique traits in their art. Even when trying not to. (its how the sakuga community can tell what animators did what scenes even when they're masters of the craft trying to stay on model)

So really just try to have fun. The rest will come, but if you enjoy what you're doing you're never gonna go wrong.

Personal art styles are just you selecting what you like and what works.
I purposely try to mimic other styles if possible to see if i can learn things from them.
In the end they usually turn out... "Meh"... so i tend to revert to basic line art :3
