Getting into adult art... Help!

Maranda Cromwell

Hello friends!
I'm a traditional artist specializing in animals and anthropomorphic characters. (My FA gallery is https://www.furaffinity.net/user/marandart/ to get an idea of the type of thing I make). It's not what you think of when you think of furry art, but a lot of furries enjoy my art, so here we are.
I recently went freelance and I'm looking to diversify my offerings for commissions.
I'm not well practiced at adult art, but I think it could be a venue for me to pursue if I offered traditional art, since that's not as common. Might help me stand out.
I'm not sure if it would be worth it for me to invest time to get better at adult stuff, though... I know a unique artist can carve out their own niche, but I'm not very well known.
Thoughts? Advice? Halp???
Thank you :3

So long, good luck, goodbye.
First off, you have a really great style and I love seeing traditional media in furry art.

Secondly, a possible way to try adult art that would fit well with what you're already doing is to maybe try some nude figure or erotic imagery instead of going full-bore adult or explicit. Say, a suggestive pose or showing a character in an aroused state. It looked like you had a few nude or mostly nude pieces in your gallery already. It could be a good way to feel out doing that kind of art while still being able to say (if anyone complains) that it's still artistic in nature.

Hope that makes sense!

Yeah, your style doesn't seem to favor two characters (or more) much, so I'd lean towards erotic imagery first. Don't even need to go full bore - there's some very moving erotic art that doesn't actually show anything naughty, just heavily implies it.

There's a million porn artists out there (my non-adult art is honestly much more for myself than anyone else), but quite a few less that just do eroticism well. Your "Wolf Comfort" piece - that style, but in a nude, would look great and be a very nice step towards adult art. Doesn't even need to be aroused. Side note, I really like that piece.

I mean, if you want to dive full on into it, then I guess you can start trying to use porn as reference and reproduce it. But looking at that Wolf piece, that's not gonna be your strength without a lot of practice.

Thanks for the replies everyone. (Except you Draakc. I don't understand your motive for a post like that, lol.)
I might try doing some more nudes as practice though! That's a great idea. At the very least it won't be too much of a weird departure from my usual fare.
Thank you Ziggy, I'm glad you like it. :)

I've just given your gallery a quick look and 'My God! You've got a nice style there!'

Going along with what Ziggy and Tenet were saying I think pinup/erotica would be a good direction to go in rather than full NSFW.

Oh, lord, Maranda, I love your art! Following!

I'd say, it's always good to try new things and refine your skills, but don't feel like you're obligated to do adult art under duress if it's not your thing.

That said, I agree with others that I think pinups and tasteful erotica would be a good fit for your style. You could also go mystical or surreal in ways that could be read as potentially fetishistic, while still being tasteful.
