gifs don't work

It seems that when posting an animation, gif, etc, it doesn't work! The animation doesn't move, it stays still in png format, even if I post it in GIF format, bug found after updating Fur Affinity

If your posting in the main FA site I’ve noticed this too, it’s weird but I found a way to fix it.
Basically you post the thing, then you go into edit submission and reupload the gif, hopefully that works for you

I've tried this multiple times but it hasn't worked for me. I've tried different browsers and different file sizes :(

When you say file size, do you mean in terms of bytes or dimensions?

Both, file size was originally 9.8mb then compressed down to 7.3mb. Then further reduced because I read a 5 year old comment that said that the maximum was 1200x675. This was before I saw that the gif problem was a known site wide problem.

Hmmm that is annoying- you said you tried different browsers but have you tried another device? Like maybe try uploading it with your phone if you were using your computer?
Either way the site really needs to fix the GIF problem, there is a chance it’s gotten worse with the update but idk

Gifs from before the update seem to be working fine, including the ones in your galley. I don't see anything from you from after the update, but I can't see if there's anything NSFW in your galley.

I just tried from my phone (android) and no dice, I also tried the changing the source file thing and still nothing. I recently changed my icon to a gif and that still works though.

I deleted the file since it wasn't working, I just uploaded it to my scraps. I'll keep it there for a while to see if maybe it just takes a bit to fly changed the source file.

No, there is no solution yet as far as I know, it doesn’t matter how much time it spends uploaded it doesn’t work. GIFs aren’t the only files having problems I believe?

That's true, all uploaded files are affected. It's even known what's going on. All uploaded images are most likely being processed by the downscaler, even if no downscaling is actually performed. This will often result in loss of information, the downscaler can only handle simple pictures.

Good to know, I only deal with pictures and I haven't uploaded in a while before the gif so I hadn't noticed.

When will the problem with gifs be fixed? It's been so many days and nothing has been fixed, it's really horrible not being able to post my gif icons, I have a lot of gif icons to post from my clients:(

Couple notes:

1. You will want to ensure that your GIFs are within our dimension restraints. If they are over, we will resize the image to fit within them, which will cause us to display a static image of the first frame.
2. This fix is not retroactive. You will need to Update the Source File of previously-submitted GIFs to see change. This option is found on the submission's page under "Submission Options" on the right.

If you experience any issues, please submit a Trouble Ticket: https://www.furaffinity.net/controls/troubletickets/

Glad to see the GIF fix is finally out. If proper GIF resizing isn't on the list of things to do, the "files to upload" page should have a disclaimer explaining how oversized GIFs will be broken upon resize. The only notice that the GIF fix has been implemented has (so far) just been on Dragoneer's twitter account, and if it weren't for me browsing these forums, I wouldn't've noticed that it was fixed. I have a lot of GIFs to upload and I'm glad I didn't miss out on it being fixed today.

Honestly, even the old size limit of 1280x1280 was plenty for GIFs and it was working the same way, bigger GIFs were downscaled and coverted to still images. Now it's 2K and I believe nobody is that insane to cretae GIFs that big. The GIF format is very inefficient and would quickly reach the 10MB upload limit. Video is more appropriate for hires animations. So I don't think it's an issue.
