1. I get to regularly see really awesome artwork
2. I get to see really cute things
3. I've learned about obscure video games and anime I otherwise would have never looked into (that were actually pretty good! I'm looking at you Solatorobo)
4. I've been introduced to the wonderfully cool community that is FAF
5. I've made new friends

Indeed. Give it a few months, the shiny feeling of being in a new community will wear off and you will become as cynical as the rest of us.
