Help with/How to start on NSFW?

Hello! I'm an artist who has recently found NSFW somewhat interesting, at least from a somewhat soft perspective, and I have no clue where to search for like...help, references, ideas...like, I want to start working on that but I genuinely dont know /where or how/ to start? So if you have any tips, or sites, or anything that might help Id love to know ;; thank!

Well, there are several way to do this. Here's some possibilities:
  • Think of characters you like (can be fanart) and what you imagine them doing in NSFW art. It means that you just use your own kinks to apply them to your art.
  • Do some searches. If you're up for pretty soft, search for nude photos on your web browser and see where it leads you (I like to use google for this and choose one photo for which I like the atmosphere then look at the other images like it google suggested, it gives pretty good inspiration in my opinion). If you're up for less soft, you can go to porn sites and see if positions or situations give you some inspiration
  • Look at NSFW art you like. What do you like in it: situations, characters, lighting, colors, kinks... Again inspiration :)
  • Go for humour (if that's your thing). I feel that thinking with humour or casualness of sex or sexy times helps bring some softness to NSFW and to the process. For example, an icecream with two-scoop ice creams can be seen as a lady with a nice breast, you can create a sexy character just with that idea. Another example would be two people waking up after sleeping together (it can be all cute, more sexual and so on)
  • Use references (again, your preferred web browser would be the first place to go. I like to search for things like "nude woman with garter belts"). I don't know if you find anatomy difficult or not, but sometimes it can lead viewers to an uncanny valley if things are wonky. That should not stop you for drawing and submitting your drawings, we all learn with practice, but using refs do help to go up a step for NSFW art. (I just went to your gallery, I don't think you'll have issues in that matter ^^)
  • If you're up for it, you can open some Free art thread where you ask for ideas. It can be with known characters if you don't feel too inclined to draw sonas of other people. Careful though, don't forget to say it is soft NSFW and don't forget that soft doesn't mean the same thing for everybody ^^
  • If you have some NSFW stories you have read and that you like, you can draw a scenery coming from it with your characters for example. Don't forget to credit the story when posting (especially if you used the characters from the story) and sending a message to the author is also better in my opinion.
  • Have a friend with which you share ideas of NSFW art. I do that with one of my friend. We send each other themes to draw ^^
Hope that helps :)

Classic pin up girls have a lot of interesting poses for inspiration. I love the cheekiness. :p

Thank you both for the help!
@MissNook I've only quite recently been interested in some stuff like this so I didnt really even think about kinks or anything until like, this year or something, I'm not too familiar with that I guess other than knowing I like fancy lingerie :0 are there any nice sites where you can search for nsfw art, aside from FA? I remember this was banned or similar in tumblr ;;

@Hikarty That's cool for fancy lingerie, that's a good base :)
I suggest hentai-foundry, e-hentai et e621. Careful though, it's not all soft. Don't hesitate to use tags for e621 et e-hentai and filters for hentai-foundry to chose what you wanna see or not see ^^

I would say start with kinks that you like and stick with those.
F-list has collection of kinks and descriptions. Make a list of the ones you're okay with drawing/ researching because you /may/ have to find references. The references should be something you don't mind looking at.

Myself, I don't like looking at actual bodies, so I never use live references. I do have some artists who have pretty good anatomy work that I use for references.

Otherwise, depending on the kind of content, focus more on composition- how bodies and shapes are arranged in a piece.

I started to draw nsfw just a few days ago but I would recomend to do a lot of anatomy studies, I use this page:
(There is a option to mark if you want to see nude references), and thenwhen u know how anatomy basicaly works, take references from porn! It has helped me that lol

I would advise against using porn, actually. Mainly because we have so many inflato-baby oil looking furs because of it. I do not advise~~

The karma sutra has a bunch of positions though.

I see, but I can't understand what you mean by inflato-baby oil looking furs, could you explain it a little bit more? (Sorry, english isn't my native language)

No worries!

Inflato-baby oil furs: Furries who look like inflatable pool toys, despite having fur and hair everywhere.

How soft is soft in your opinion?
If you're just after pinups, for references, literally, look up pin ups on google for poses, or deviant art, except they've changed their search engine so its now a pain in the butt to get a good selection of nude poses but they were really good for me for finding nice poses and lighting references.
If soft to you, is a bit more sexual than just pin ups... honestly, you may just have to grin and bear it and google it, google image search generally is where I go if I'm looking for something that isn't just artistic nudity.

Primarily though, anything NSFW will greatly benefit from an understanding of anatomy, so life drawing, biology images, etc, will all help you as references so you can understand the anatomy of the body better. Most of us probably don't really know exactly how our own bits look as we can't exactly get down there to see! So it doesn't hurt to educate yourself on anatomy some too :3
