You see, I told my mum I am a furry a couple weeks ago (I'm 14, and stuff can be very delicate to talk about), and she was like "You know what furries are, right?", and I said that we were with the most basic explanation possible, that we were fans of anthro characters, and she told me that was what I THOUGHT it was, and when I asked her, she told me that we dressed as plushies to fuck. I tried to snap her out of it, but it was useless, and then she told me that when I finally got embarrased with it I would realise I was wrong and stop. What I need help with is finally convincing her otherwise, because I'm watching furry stuff like the fursuit outing video from Sheila the Monster (link in the tags), they say that last thing and, honestly, it's really tiring.

Rather than convincing her that she's wrong, you should probably try to convince her that you're not part of that. You're doing the right thing already -- keep the content safe and clean, be honest with her, and just be a representation of the parts of the fandom you'd like her to see.

Still, you sound like you've got your head on straight. Is it possible that the way you told your mom that you were a furry had an impact on what she thinks? Making a big deal of "coming out" can cause more problems than it solves... treating things in a light-hearted way gives the impression that things are not a big deal, which is probably what you want right now.

Perhaps you don't need to try so hard to convince her: time might do it for you. Relax and enjoy the community for a while, critter.

Well, she has the burden of proof. Just ask her if she can prove it. (She can't. There is no set in stone definition for a furry ).

Don't try to prove anything to her, just hold the default position. It is the safest position. Oh, and keep things clean if you must.

Parents can certainly be pesky about certain things, though luckily, you don't have to live with them forever.

If she disagrees that she does not do such things, then point out to her that furry is the same way. Not all of us Fuck in fursuits. In fact most furries don't even have fursuits, and even then, it is a minority of those that do such things.

If she agrees that she does/has done such pictures, then you need to point out to her (once you stop laughing) that she has done far worse than most furries ever will and to get over it.

Regardless of the outcome, you can also go take her to watch Zootopia, and see if she likes the movie. And then ask her if every kid that was in the theater that enjoyed watching that movie is also into fucking in fursuits. If she answers Yes to that, she's a lost cause, don't bother wasting any more time or effort on her and ignore her.

Now mind you, I also have no idea if OP is in America so don't do that if you're elsewhere as I have no idea how those systems in other countries work.

While that was indeed what I did, I will readily agree that most children do not have the spine for this sort of thing. One can easily minimize communication while cohabitating with an individual simply by not engaging them in conversation and only speaking to them when being directly adressed by them. My mother was the same way, very against furs. I never brought it up, she would just see something remotely furry in a public area or on tv and go on a rant about how disgusting they were. So i never told her. Made things much easier.
