How did you end up in this fandom and what makes you stay?

I decided to be a furry due to a skiing accident that caused some health issues. It was something I was uncomfortable about coming out with and now I just dont give a shit. I'm staying because of the awesome art and all the opportunities to give back to the world and make some people happy through art.

I found it through the wonders of the internet, and stayed because the people are nice, hoping to find friends, and would love a fursuit/cons.

On another note, how did a skiing accident lead you to becoming a furry?

Star Fox had a huge influence on me back in high school. But what keeps me going on is my unique fursona who I hope will act as a sort of liaison to a music and a culture I have always admired but never been able to appreciate, for fear of what others might say.

I found the furry fandom when I was depressed, lonely, angry, and in a downward spiral in my life. I stayed because not a lot has changed.

Playing in a LARP as one of the races as a 'snow leopard' cat person.... with someone that was a real furry and they thought I was a furry so they told me about their fursona and that I should come out and do stuff with the furry group they belonged to... and yeah wasn't a furry when I was asked which cause a bit of embarassment but I figured why not? I've already got a blinking tail and ears and paws... though I had to make paws that didn't have larp safe claws sticking out of them. Sticking around because well it just seems natural? I ALWAYS played at being a big cat as a kid all the time, and in high school I purposely worked on making myself very feline when it came to gracefulness and athletics and depending on the sport 'killer instint'... and those attributes I worked on have stuck around and I have fun with the group

It was the porn. Not many people back in 2006-2007 to my knowledge were into all of that "srs" business of writing good stories, characters, or designing unique content. Now that's changed, so it's an added benefit. Also, because of gaming.

Uuhh, well I was always into art, specifically anthromorphs... But I had no idea what a furry was for most of my life.

It wasn't until around the World of Warcraft expansion: Cataclysm was being released... The new worgen race were becoming playable, and the WoW forums were crying about how "furries are going to invade WoW". Well, those threads dispersed once the xpac was released, and furries never destroyed WoW. But for months after the thought kept nagging at me... "What the balls is a furry?"

So I googled it. Yeah...

Although I don't actually have my own persona, simply because I'm not interested enough in the fandom to make one. I do enjoy sticking around for the art community, and the kind people.
