How did you find the fandom?

What Does The Fox Say(isn't this original)
How did you find the fandom? Could it of been through a browsing the internet, or a friend? I want to know how you found it.

Personally I found it through a friend sending me a cringe comp.(I normally don't watch these but he was begging me to so I did) and then I saw a segment on furries and then instead of "cringing"
I was intrigued by it because I have always been fascinated with the idea of anthropomorphic animals. So I watched some more cringe comps. of furries and I realized instead of "cringing" I was more interested by it. So I looked it up online and that is how I found the fandom.

Technically, I first found it from the infamous CSI episode, though to be honest, at the time I don't think I thought it was a real thing, just something CSI made up. Didn't find out furries were actually a thing until I joined an online forum called Gaia Online.

My first exposure to furries wasn't all that pleasant. I was on some chat website in the distant past, and it was saturated with furries and their role playing. I was frustrated that these people were these animated avatars that they role played as in some rule-less imagination dialog game. Well recently my friends were making fun of furries I decided to actually research furries. It's kinda awesome, now at all what I thought it was. I have unexpectedly brought myself into the furry fandom. I can't wait to tell my friends.......

During the FA crash a few months back, I joined FAF to keep 'up-to-date' with the situation. They didn't keep us up to date.. But I talked on here in the mean time.
Learned a lot about Furries and realized I was very much one xD

I was a desperate young teenager, when I found the forums I relished the chance to post hundreds of pictures of myself and have others shower me with comments about how cute I was. I'm so glad that mugshots shit is gone. Soooo many regrettable pictures posted.

The fandom itself I used to soothe my self image issues and boost my ego. But I found it through porn.

No furry friends. It all started with Skyrim.. yum. Guess I was scalie before I was furry..

Yes, some porn, but mostly not. Best pictures had this tendency to come from FA.
Then one day I checked out the site directly. Found Falvie's gallery.. ahh

Still not sure what made me sign up to the forums though

Ironically, I guess, via IMVU. Apparently I signed up on November 17, 2009 (jeez, has it really been almost 7 years now? Damn!!) but I didn't find out about the furry fandom until the following summer.

Long story short, I didn't really use IMVU for much of anything, except I thought it was the greatest thing ever to have a virtual apartment that I could hang out with my irl friends in. Lame, I know. Fast forward, it was a really hot summer day and I oddly remember it well. I just finished swimming and decided I was going to spend some time on IMVU. None of my friends were online, so I decided to browse some local chat rooms (which I had only done a couple times prior; I didn't join to make new friends, only to stay connected with current ones, so the chatrooms didn't really interest me). Being oh-so-creative, I searched for "pool rooms" and one in particular caught my attention. I can't for the life of me remember the name, only that it's logo was a rather sexy anthropomorphic cat. So I joined, not knowing that joining that room would change my life forever (alright, maybe not that dramatic. But it certainly brought me into the fandom, and that's still arguably a very significant aspect of my life).

At first I was met with criticism having a human character. I don't remember how it went, only that I wasn't welcomed there. It didn't upset me, but I still felt that this was a challenge. A test of some sort. So I created a "wolf man" as I initially referred to him as. A simple Gray Wolf avatar I got from taking surveys and earning creds (or whatever tediously long process it was to earn free creds back then). Afterwards, I rejoined the room. Nothing interesting happened at first. Not until one of the friendlier members started talking to me, and then she introduced me to RP.

For some reason, I kept coming back. I... I actually enjoyed it. Something about being this anthropomorphic character and all these people with similar characters just interested me. I can't really explain it. It was an odd feeling.

This eventually led to creating a FurAffinity account, then first commissioning an animated icon for $25 (Interesting question - anyone else remember their first commission?) and later my first character sheet. A German Shepherd. He was my first true fursona, the other character didn't mean much. Ever since then I've been involved in the fandom. Spent ungodly amounts of money on artwork of the years, seen all kinds of crazy things.

Shamefully, I have never been to a convention. None are close to home. Next year I plan to go to Anthrocon though. I have no idea what to expect... but I'm sure as hell excited to find out!!

You can get decent commissions that cheap? I don't have a first.. yet.. perhaps considering now xD

I guess that makes me realize that just being closer to what I love, or with people that share the same desires as me just feels nice.. maybe that's why I signed up. I liked some people here before I even did join..

Once upon a time I was 9 years old and loved starfox, particularly crystal, and would constantly google art for her and I found this shower picture of her and I was like "Wow that's hot".

I was looking at anthro wolf art, and found this website where people were talking about it. One of them briefly mentioned furries,
in a derogatory way, and I looked it up, found some really bad stereotype in an article that showed them as sexual freaks, and thought, "Ugh! Sex? Gross!" And left it for a while. Then I found this video showing them what they actually are, and became one immediately.

Made friends with a chap named Chalo. Sold him his first Wacom tablet, too!
in return he showed me the deeper darker side of deviantART and introduced me to the furry community on VCL (no, not the media player).

Mage of Void, dammit.
Found it when I heard the word being used, then I looked it up and found out about the fandom.

Joined it after I saw some trailers for Zootopia.

2 years ago. Only really active in it recently. What lead me into it? An IHE video on furries. So I was like "well if he doesn't quite understand it, maybe I should just search it myself?". I was both disgusted and interested by what I found.

Part disgusting and part interesting is how you know it's good.

I joined a gaming community, met a wonderful gay dude that was one, and was off put by furry fandom for months because of the pictures I saw from him. The word "furry" was burned in my head forever. Fast forward a few months and I met someone that was a but more level-headed about it, and I figured I could just look at some art. Now I'm stuck here forever.
