How long are furries... furries?

What first made you want to be a furry?
>Wanting to be furry
HAHAHAH. Hoo..

I never really wanted the label, but I liked the art and it was new and interesting, that's enough to label me one. It also gave me a good theme to practice my drawings on.
Now as I feel more mature I feel this fandom has given me all it can. I do still like the art, sure, but the fact I have 30k unviewed submissions in my inbox tells a story of how active I am with that regard these days.
I have a lot more going on in my life now than before, when I needed the fandom as a place to kill time and coexist in bitter agreements. The "addiction" I had as a younger espresso is gone.

I don't really want to be one either; if I could press a button and suddenly lose interest, I would.

I've been in the fandom since 2002, I've never lost interest. Some people do, some people don't. And really, that's okay. You don't have to stay a furry forever, or you could be one till you die at 124. Who knows. That's the fun of it really. Not knowing.

As many years in the fandom as inches on their dicks. That's how long.

That's odd. You could always try that aversion therapy thing like in, 'A Clockwork Orange', but I imagine you'd be happier just being a furry. Though that seems extreme, and is meant in jest...couldn't you simply find other things to be interested in, maybe? Knitting, race-cars, rolling sushi, bungee jumping? What makes ya feel bad about having this interest? I don't mean this at all defensively, but just outta curiosity.

I have noticed that most of the time, when you click on someone's profile it was made in the past week...

As long as the community continues to pump out attractive female furry pics, I don't see myself ever leaving.

I feel less and less connected every day and I've been in for 5+ years

I felt the same way about the social aspect of it. Thing is, it's not "teh fandumb" that got me into it, in the first place. I always was into this kind of stuff, as far back as I remember. When I was three, I used to pretend I was a tiger. At least, my parents told me that and I distinctly remember having an argument in pre-school with another student why tigers are better than lions xD

Anywaaaay,

I was into cartoons and stuff since around that time, too. Danger Mouse was a huge one for me. I actually watched that *on TV in the USA* when I was three (don't I feel old). I was also very young when I had my first computer, maybe in kindergarten or the first grade, so naturally I was one of the first children around with internet. I was on newsgroups in my early teens, on alt.binaries.pictures.erotica.furry and alt.binaries.pictures.erotica.cartoons and also frequented a few websites *cough... biohazard* and yeah. Everything went downhill from there >.<

Thing is, I don't see myself ever LOSING interest in the stuff and I'll probably be one of those older furs still on FA and Inkbunny 20 years down the road *cough... biohazard* No really, he's a great artist. I only say that because he's the one artist I've seen on those sites I remember from way back then.

Yeah, I know they exist... Thing is, I would have been like 7 back then. Even when I was on newsgroups and stuff I was a teen and didn't really have any interest in the social aspect. I didn't even bother with the .d groups (discussion). It wasn't until I was in my early 20's running around the ghetto in Tampa wearing kitsune tails and ears that I met up with other furs (and random Puerto Ricans with latent gay furry fetishes who apparently knew nothing about it).

To my surprise, I'm still here :/ I thought this was only a temporary thing but apparently not... Unsure if this is a bad thing or a good thing.

Depends on who you ask, this community is wonderful, supportive, creative, and overall, amazing. I've met people who have lend me a hand when I was in emotional trouble, people who would sit for hours and listen to my rants, others would play with me all night, others would watch movies and even role play, so my impression of this fandom is impeccable. There's always some bad things but the amount of good ones almost neglect the bad side.

As for how long furries are furries, I know one thing. I'll be one until my heart stops beating :D

Furries are furries until they experience one of the following A) stop making money from it B) are no longer interested in the porn C) finally grow up and realize their fantasy of banging starfox is never going to happen D) get a life E) they are removed from this Earth (death) F) sanity

All of which except E never usually happen because furries... well are furries

I'm interested in this silly stuff. I don't think I would be able to change that, even though I'd rather find normal things interesting. It would be easier to relate to other people if I was interested in, say, soccer, rather than furries, but I'm just not, lol.

I've been a furry for 10 years now, and it's only gotten stronger but maybe for some people it dies off after some time. I think it's a mentality that either grows or wanes as you age. But once you're a furry, always a furry!
