How much of the fandom is satirical in nature?

As Zootopia have shown, you can use anthropomorphic animals to convey satire about the human condition, which is just what fables have always been about since the days of Aesop. So how satirical in nature is the furry fandom in general today?

As much as furries can be equivalent to punks, there's a wave of post-furries engaging in style or introspection rather than satire, which is interesting to say the least. Does that comparison hold up?

I've definitely used satire to poke fun at aspects of the human condition in my stories and RPs, especially poking fun at things like Evangelical Christianity, and those 'pray-away-the-gay' conversion camps they have. This would be a more specific example, but in my main origin of Simo story, he gets sent to this camp after being found in his home in the Alabama swamps by Preacher Possum, making out with his son, Pepper Possum, and sent to this pray-away-the gay prison camp, run by the evil, ol' shriveled-up Rev. Fox, who's later caught up in a massive scandal, similar to the ones in the Catholic Church with priests...so though it's a romance/adventure story between two friends, it makes heavy use of animal characters to Satirize present day religious institutions.

It's curious you mention a punk/rebellious aspect...I was very much a punk rock teen growing up, mowak, leather jacket and all...I'd only discover the furry fandom later, and the two naturally intersected.

So I'd say yes, I like to use my main fursona and others by way of satire...not always, but it is fun.

I think half the reason for having a fursona is so you could turn it up to 11 and do things with them and to them that you'd never do in real life.

I see you're partaking in the heavily bourgeois tradition of discrediting satire as either hate speech, insanity or in this case "wish fulfilment".
A practice I've seen mostly by post-furs who's only in it for the style and thus assumes that everyone else is in it for that particular reason too.

Going outside of furry fandom, you now who else got their satire discredited as "wish fulfilment"? This guy and this particular music video.

I'm not discrediting it at all. Satire does have a definition though. Lot of furry porn isn't here to make a comment on society, just my opinion. Some is some isn't. I think it's mostly meant to give us a big furry boner or wetness, quite frankly. Definitely works for me! I'm all over it.

That video is satirical. I wouldn't call it porn though. Sir Mix a Lot does like big butts for real. I know I do!

No idea what you're talking about with the hate speech thing. If you talk to some pron artists, their intention isn't social commentary. They like looking at animals being as naughty as possible, just like me. I know some is though. I love that stuff too.

That's a pretty over-simplification and shallow view of yiff. Saw that you wrote that you're yearning for a Stephen Colbert in the fandom. Guess what, they're already here. Just know what to look for and lure out that particular talent on someone you know have that potential.

Due to the 2.500 year long history of anthropomorphism due to Aesop making shortcuts to satire, it's safe to say that the furry fandom is inherently satirical and should be respected as such. I respect you as a post-fur, but you shouldn't be the judge on what's considered satirical when you yourself don't have any intention in the fandom aspiring towards that. That's just common sense.

To quote Markiplier, "People are shallow, don't look any deeper and make snap judgements because they can't get past the boobs".

80% Porn
20% Satirical porn

At the most. Personally, I'd love to see more satire.

I don't think a whole lot of the fandom is satire, but I know at least part of it is. Maybe 25% or so. I know when I draw smutt of my fursona, it's always to poke fun at myself and get a good laugh out of my odd kinks.

I think a furry with confidence can make a joke of society beautifully and easily, as any "abnormal" person could. As far as how much of the fandom is satire, I don't know, but the potential is there. I really love the idea of punk fur fusion. Furs make "normal" people uncomfortable as hell, and that used to be (and still mostly is) what punk was. "I like me, those like me, my werid sexuality, make my own spirituality and fuck a society that hates individuality" Unfortunately one day, I bet anything, that if modern society continues another 10-20 years, you will see fur suits in Sears. (I'm assuming that's what a post-fur is? Fashion?) But until that day I love this raw weirdo magic. Kids in high schools wearing collars and leashes makeing super intendents questions their marriages. Parents who teach their kids a linear understanding of life and on their way out of church pass a furcon and now have no choice but to yell at their kid for asking questions which sends that kid down a wild learning curve. The awesome embrace of meeting other weirdos. Furs can poke holes in society and I know I'm laughing at insane misplaced anger of Internet trolls and who those people pose to be. Backdropping raunchy yiff on cafe PCs can also be a great prank if done right.

I have athsma, and my birth mother still saw fit to smoke around me. Even when she didn't, her smoking still affected me because all that shit clung to her. I think the fandom does enjoy irony and tongue-in-cheek humor, and that outsiders often misunderstand the degree to which furries are winking and kidding about things.

a little bit over the top but the fursuits in Sears thing reminded me of my dad being like "The next day they were selling BONGS in Sears and that was it for society" (well I dunno about the last part but kind of like, if fursuits in Sears were PROFITABLE enough you'd probably see them.
