How to make art

I see a lot of artist not taking criticism lately and being proud of stuff they know they can do better on. Generally people do this to make you better as an artist. Why you people refuse help and scream troll is beyond me so I have made a tutorial on how to make art perfect.

I thought I might elaborate on what critique means...

"Critique is a method of disciplined, systematic analysis of a written or oral discourse. Critique is commonly understood as fault finding and negative judgement[SUP][1][/SUP], but it can also involve merit recognition, and in the philosophical tradition it also means a methodical practice of doubt.[SUP][1][/SUP] The contemporary sense of critique has been largely influenced by theEnlightenment critique of prejudice and authority, which championed the emancipation and autonomy from religious and political authorities.[SUP][1][/SUP] Critique is an accepted format of written and oral debate. Some authors draw a distinction between critique and criticism.[SUP][better source needed][/SUP] The distinction is not made in French, German and Italian, where the two words both translate ascritique, Kritik and critica respectively.[SUP][2][/SUP] According to philosopher Gianni Vattimo, criticism is used more frequently to denote literary criticism or art criticism, that is the interpretation and evaluation of literature and art; while critique may be used in the English language to refer to more general and profound writing as Kant's Critique of pure reason.[SUP][2][/SUP] Another proposed distinctions is that critique is never personalized nor ad hominem, but is instead the analyses of the structure of the thought in the content of the item critiqued.[SUP][citation needed][/SUP] This analysis then offers by way of the critique method either a rebuttal or a suggestion of further expansion upon the problems presented by the topic of that specific written or oral argumentation. Even authors that believe there might be a distinction, say that there is some ambiguity that is still unresolved.[SUP][2][/SUP]
Critique is an accepted and established process of orderly scholarly and public debate. In the fine arts and the humanities, and especially in writing, critique is influenced by thescientific method of analysis. Critique is based upon an informed opinion, and never upon personal opinion. Informed opinion is accepted as being technical knowledge, personal or professional experience, or specified training.
The term 'critique' derives, via French, from Ancient Greek κριτική (kritikē), meaning "the faculty of judgement", that is, discerning the value of persons or things.[SUP][3"

Fellow artist please insert other tutorials on how to make art and take criticism. I am tired of people coming in here expecting an asspat and then raging when we try and guide them.

its hard to take criticism. I have problems with it but i try my best to listen and very rarely do i get angry. It can be annoying though but i deal with it.

I think that, in part, it's also due to how some people "critique". I see a lot of people, on the forum and off, just taking a request for critique as an excuse to be a raging bitch.
Bitching at someone is not a critique, sure there might be a gem somewhere in that dog turd, but do you really wanna dig it out with your fingers?

As for how to critique/take critique, this is a pretty good guide: http://akreon.deviantart.com/art/The-Hitchhiker-s-Guide-to-Critique-287120707

Your first idea is not always your best idea be prepared to throw it away and rework the idea and variations of it.

Hey, Assbutt
Just because you don't like the critique doesn't make it wrong, and disregarding good advice by calling them a troll is a shitty way to do things. It's the best way to stagnate and do the same shit over and over again, while you keep screaming "it's my style".

critique can be hard to take, after putting in so much time and effort, it's hard to swallow when someone tells you it's not perfect. However it is best to just swallow your pride and look at what they are saying and why. Don't feel a particular comment applies to you, examine why. Are you disregarding it because it is difficult or you don't like the idea or because it is an unhelpful request like "draw more porn"?
Don't throw a fit over it. A proper critique isn't personal.

When giving critique don't make it personal, it's not an attack. Also be specific. Point out problems which have a solution, or at least if there is no solution then try to explain exactly why you feel the issue is a problem. Don't just say "too simplistic" that doesn't really help, what is simplistic, why does it need fixing, how can it be helped?

One thing people should also realize is that while posting to people online for critiques can be good, you should also start going to peers who understand your ideas and goals.

It's the same reason you need to learn how to draw for yourself than others. People will have their own ideas and often it will get confusing where you should go. That is to say while you can still post to many people you need to learn how to deal and control the information you're receiving. I've seen too many critiques that don't really help a user either.

It's one thing to tell people the "leg sucks" but if you can't provide further information and why you don't need to pile on to a critique where someone can.

Critique =/= criticism.

Criticism will always be negative.
Critique can actually be positive.

And you should not take critique badly. EVER.

People who bother to critique your stuff want to HELP you.
They're not there to put you down.

Well unless the only thing they said is : LOLYOURARTSUCKS

But nothing is more insulting than spending time explaining to someone what they can do to improve on something they've done to hear back : "Well it's mah style bitch!" from them.
