How to revive the forums

Honestly? I have no more sympathy for furries who are judged by “normies”. If this forum (and the main site) is any reflection of the fandom as a whole, fuck, I’d avoid the hell out of it too.

I mean let’s be real here for a second, you’re a random non-furry who decides to check out this forum to genuinely see what this fandom is. What are you greeted with?

>“Make Nazis great again”
>”is feral cub porn good?”
>”Let’s talk about Hitler!”
>”actually having sex with animals is ethical”
>”I enjoy fucking my dogs”
>*person blackmails and harasses in a thread*
>”look at these dumb (racial slur)!”
>”(racial slur) should die!”
>*gif of beastiality posted*
>*child porn posted*
>*nudes posted in open chat*

Now what exactly would you make of said fandom after seeing that? Probably the same thing that most people think.

So either

A) Furries really are zoophilic/pedophilic freaks that do deserve the damnation they get

Or

B) We don’t actually give a shit how people view us. Just more reason we deserve the damnation we get.


It’s funny... the longer I’m in this fandom, the more the arguments that the “furry haters” use make sense.

If someone wants to base their opinion of a group of people on shitposters and weirdos that even said group of people call out then that's a them problem.

Despite how shitty this place has become since 2015, the discussion quality is not actually what's decreasing the activity. There isn't really much that can be done about it with social media and Discord putting forums in the meat grinder. It ain't the brain dead political threads or stupid as fuck pedo/zoophile debates we get like a daily newspaper either. We used to get just as stupid threads back when this place was getting double the activity so evidently dumb topics aren't the problem.

The forums are connected to a fairly massive mother site (FA obv). It's also one of the oldest ones that's still active. If there were ever a public hub for furries to collectively come and chat, name me something else other than this forum that fits the bill. And yet, here we are. So bearing that in mind, I personally can't see this place really getting any serious, lasting surges of membership. I feel like the forums are only gonna do as well as this until something substantial gives.

I do know we can start with management...

(Although truthfully, this place isn't really doing that bad at all for a husk running on fumes. It's just not what it used to be.)

I think these forums are doing more or less okay. Some of the most disruptive users have left, so it's actually a bit more cool-headed too.

Plus sites like this are a place you can actually post art and get comments back! It's not like endless inactive discord servers or the 'scream into darkness' that is twitter.

I think putting a political forum would be a start of help. Obviously mods are needed as well.

However as someone that generally sticks to the games forum and is here mostly for fun...let me say this is the most active forum I have been on in years. Forums are dying in general, discord is where everyone is going and that’s sad.

I mean, I get your point.

Appart from the Nazi business, not caring about how other see you is not a bad thing? It's actually pretty liberating. You can actually live your life and be genuine-

That's to say, though, that being genuine isn't without it's consequences. It's also makes it easier to avoid people who aren't the best to be around.

Any way, I don't want to do PR for an entire fandom. I just want to draw pretty pictures and play word games.

It is sad.

I remember signing up for this forum in 2014 and it seemed really active when I lurked. Then I stopped for awhile, and when I came back it seemed a lot less active.

Everyone went to discord which is harder for me personally to keep up with. I don’t do as well in live chats like that, and I just do better on forums.

That, and the discord conversation shares we get, and also people talking crap about discord servers in their threads.

I've started blocking people instantly over this.

No I think most people would agree he stirred shit up all the time. And offsite disagreement is hardly suitable considering he defended someone who gave me death threats. It's not a smear campaign. I think if you said the same thing about people smearing Somnium people would be pretty annoyed at you.
