I need and honest opinion, do you think that primates should be considered Anthro? Im talking about Gorillas and chimps and others like them. Please keep this clean and respectful, im not in this to offend anyone who is one of these creatures, im just trying to get a general opinion from the fandom.

Yes

No

Post a reply with your answer please.

Actually a good question. They don't take much modification to BE anthro, but they are still considered "feral" when left as-is.

no, reason being:

even though they could be considered it, i have yet to see a primate voluntary walk around on his two legs. their movement is to question when considering them one IMO.

They're bipedial unless modified. No heavy modifications need, luckily. They're so human-like that it's easy to make them Anthro ^^

Thats my opinion, although i must stress the fact that there already so humanlike already, that are they truly considered what would be called furry?

I'll have to go with the general consensus and say no, primates are not anthro unless you make them.

No. Needs no explanation, it's common sense from what you can hear and see them do.

Primates aren't humanlike enough in my eyes to automatically make them anthro, but a few modifications, i.e. longer legs and shorter arms, would make them more resembling anthro.

Also, don't forget some primates like lemurs don't look anything like us humans :p

Im referring in particular to Gorrillas and Chimps and the such.

I really do count a monkey or ape should be considered anthro. Well that's my honest opinion.

They are pretty close to anthro as far as physical characteristics. However, they are not quite up to the mental abilities of what I would consider anthro.

I looked at the poll, then the post, then the answers, and realized that I don't care enough to answer.

I mean, does it really matter if one furfag thinks a chimp should be an anthro or not?

Does the opinion of a furfag even matter at all?

DEEP PHILOSOPHICAL SHIT HERE!

Oh, but you didn't know I was going to post here, so there's a game changer.

To anthropomorphicize (does that function as a word?) is to give human-like characteristics to something that is not human. They resemble homo sapiens enough on their own, but there's plenty of work that can be done with them.

First on the list: Awesome thumbs would be nice.

Well it's what ever you consider to be anthro; I personally identify anthros as having to be fictional

Uhm does this even matter, even IF we came to some groundbreaking conclusion that they'd have to rewrite entire science books it doesn't matter.
WHY?, because even after this thread nothing will change. Furries can't even agree on what is anthro, what do you think having a poll will do?
tl;dr pointless thread is pointless

Anthro only applies to things that you give human traits. If it has them already then it doesn't count as anthro.

So the talking gorilla in George of the Jungle is an anthro but a normal gorilla in a zoo is not.

Its not pointless, i just want to get a general idea from the community, and i think i have done that. And the opinion on what is or is not anthro i believe is entirely up to you. Everyone has a different view of what is anthro and there all correct.

i say that yes you can make them anthro and by that i mean more human. planet of the apes (both the classic and new) is a good example of "anthro" apes in that they are disticntly different from natural apes.
but they are not really anthro to begin with....

I agree with you, but there are some that would say that you cant be furry with a fursona as a Primate, i disagree with that. You can be furry with whatever animal you want, and isnt the real definition of furry, someone that has an interest in anthropomorphics?

That's kinda confusing. I guess they WOULD if you had them talking or just gave them more human attributes. Otherwise it's just up to the artist.
