-Ideas for a Better World-

Exactly what it says on the tin.

I'd like to hear your ideas for how we could make this planet a more decent place to live. This includes everything except politics; new infrastructure, new technology, new planning, new ways of doing things.
Tell us how we can make a tomorrow that we, as a SPECIES, can be proud of.

As I'm sure many of you do as well, I've been meditating on how our history sucks so hard. Sure, we have had a few great things here and there, but look back! Look at ALL the incredible missed opportunities and tragedies that we have faced. For as long as we have been on this planet, Humans have dreamed of good things yet to come. We have tried to build the future so many times, but what has happened? What happens that topples those dreams, that blunts their cutting edge to the point of irrelevance? And why do we marginalize so many good ideas that come to fruition, or outright forget them?
This is not a question of the WAY these things happen, history can show us the how and the why. But why do we allow such things to continue? We are a brilliant, creative, compassionate species, and our potential is literally beyond measure. We need not be bound by apathy, or greed, or the status quo. We are the only intelligent life that we know of, and that certainly gives us a responsibility to be all that we can possibly be.

I remember the millennium. I watched as Humanity, across the globe, came together for an instant and said "This is it, this is the beginning of a NEW ERA, we will stand united and go boldly into it!"
But what we got was more of the same, and worse. We live in an era that is slowly, SLOWLY beginning to realize its potential, but I do believe it will get worse before it gets better.
Unless we do something drastic about it.
You who are reading this are the only ones who can make this happen. You are going to build the future; whether you like it or not, and indeed, whether you KNOW it or not, the responsibility is yours. Age does not matter. Generation does not matter. Political viewpoint does not matter. Social and/or financial status does not matter. The only things that matter are your willingness to listen, and to contribute your ideas.
You shape the future merely by existing. But if you choose, you guide it even further.
We all want to be part of something. We want to have done something important in our lives, something to which we can say "YES! I was there! I did that! I helped build the future!"
Do that thing. Make that contribution. There has never been a better time than right now.

So please, tell us! What ideas do you have to make the future a better place for us to live in?
Nothing can happen if it is not first proposed.

Also, if you can, replicate this thread on other forums!

Remove political secrets as well as secret societies. Secrets are what harms our world the most if you think about it.

Okay... anyone have ideas for anything more concrete? For example; government transperacy is a GREAT idea, but how would it be executed?

...can we please take this a bit more seriously?

Well, you've all derailed something that could have been positive. You should feel great about yourselves.

No republicans and no close minded religions. I'm serious, if those two things never existed this world would be a better place.

For government transparency, if there was to be any sort of apocalyptic event, the fallout of the government would be big enough for us to start anew. For example: if the dollar becomes worthless.

I cant wait till Annoyed Dragon posts in here.

I'm not talking about tearing down society and starting anew, mind. The idea, as I see it, is to make the operations of a nation's government completely visible to its population. If you have government transparency, you have a better informed voting populace, and it is far more likely that decisions will have a greater bearing on peoples' actual needs and wants, rather than being almost arbitrary, as now.
The key would be, how do we implement this transparency, realistically?

They shroud our minds with false propoganda that makes any truth seem almost impossible in reality. There is no way to remove this shroud unless everyone becomes a hipster and a conspiracy theorist. Or Ron Paul becomes president.

You and annoyed dragon were separated at birth.

Seriously fuck cancer.

I would say removal of the ego, but that would put things to a standstill I think. Ego does good in the world in a way, it's just it's so easy to have too much.

I think purging the entire human race would fix the world.

Oh but wait then there's no one in it.

Damn, and here I was on to something.

A bit more pragmatically: I think education and tolerance would go a long way.

Okay, let's steer the topic away from politics for a little while. Allow me to say my bit about my favorite Human endeavor;
Space exploration.

In 1974, Gerard K. O'Neill proposed the Island 3 type space habitat. Using fairly straightforward technology and engineering, Humanity could provide our species with an almost unlimited source of raw materials, comfortable living space, energy, and a jumping off point for exploration of our solar system and beyond. We would no longer be subject to the limitations imposed by our cradle (the Earth), and would have the option of drastically reducing our impact on it. We could live well, possibly being able to guarantee a high standard of living to our entire population.
NASA investigated this technology in the late 1970s. However, political agendas slashed the space agency's funding, and ended this promising research. We shot ourselves in the foot, basically.
We NEED an organization like NASA to be well funded; and this isn't just because we could all be living in orbital habitats one day. NASA is a driving creative force. Forget spin-off technologies, though it's hard to forget products responsible for trillions of dollars and the betterment of the Human condition; NASA, and organizations like it, inspire people to dream about what could be. It's a STANDARD for the future. What's the benchmark for a big project? Going to the Moon in under a decade. If we have a BASE to inspire that kind of creative drive in other groups and individuals, it will pay for itself many, many times over, and give us a better world to live in in the process.

Overwhelmingly those who ruin the world are those who think they can radically improve it.

Take away Instincts.

Pick up that can.

Very good question... wish I had a good answer.
I suppose we'll have to reinvent them.

Very good question... wish I had a good answer.
I suppose we'll have to reinvent them.
It is not to reinvent as it is to rebuild. We can rebuild, replace, and repair. We can clean the cuts and heal the wounds. The scars may remain but the pain will leave. Time will pass and people will change but one thing will not. Our dreams we dream of a better future we dream for a new day and we look to the horizon in fascination. It is time for the world to stop dreaming and to wake up. Our voices carry farther than our gun shots. Words can change the path of history as much as actions can. A person is not defined by his or her action but by his ways of displaying them. One mans life is worth a million men women and children. We are created equal and may no man tell you differently. There is no good or evil in the world. There is only right and wrong. It is time that we define what is right! For we are not just men and women! We are the people of our world. Let us not argue upon our past but advance into a new era. An era of equality and safety. We should not have to lie waiting to die! No man deserves such torment! We take the right actions now and decide the future for the world.
