Imagine if there was tests to be allowed in

I remember working with 2 kids with aspergers syndrome as a mentor type figure while they were getting used to college and being on campus full time. Real bright kids, although one of them was a little spooky because he was really gung ho about krav maga and didn't know when to stop. The two knew each other and were mutually unaware of each other's autism and thought the other one was a fucking nutcase. Watching them interact and try really hard to be nice only to ultimately stomp off like "WHATEVER THAT GUY'S A FUCKING WEIRDO" was better than cable.

Shouldn't you have been ... oh I don't know, mentoring them instead of treating them as zoo-animals then?

I was, and that was a feature of their interaction that was relevant to the topic of autism and it was amusing that people can get annoyed at things that they are guilty of. I understand I've put a situation with little context out for strangers' consideration so you can jump to the valiant defense of people whom you've never met if you like, but, you don't people watch at all? Never thought it was hilarious when an incredibly talkative person finally meets someone who is just as talkative and can't handle them, when a person criticizes someone else's appearance but isn't exactly model material, et cetera? It's not like I was following them around like Jane fuckin' Goodall. Anyway, if the answer is, "no," then the point still is, 'The humor I found was in their hypocrisy.'

This conversation reminds me of my personal experiences in high school which gives me this feeling that I am probably autistic yet left undiagnosed... At least looking back, my school teachers have given me this impression.

Either that, or I was just really awkward, or they really liked me for some reason.

This is just kinda funny and some of you guys' dreams probably.

Imagine if there was a test you had to pass to allow someone into the fandom. For example:

~Had to be employed or looking for a job (or a good excuse, like disability, not to)
~Had to be proven to be mentally sane/no mental disorders that interfere too much
~No criminal record (though it depends what it is)
~Had to live on your own or at least with roommates (and not with parents) by age 30
~Have to go outside everyday, beyond your yard

Imagine how many of the bad stereotypes we would instantly weed out by needing all that. XD It would be completely different. Anyone else agree with this? :3

(This isn't serious, just a joke XP don't take it serious)

That depends. Are you still allowed in?

I think we should ban anyone who makes idiotic suggestions such as this.

Teachers always seemed to like me for some reason. I guess that wouldn't be so bad if they didn't treat the rest of the students like scumbags.

It's creepy.

I dont like that idea, as its not the furry community is some club you have to pay a membership fee to get in or something. Plus everyone has a connection to furryism and anthro animals in their own way, there is no one way that people get into the fandom and one set of behaviors that everyone does. For example, some fursuit some don't, some draw some dont, some write some don't, some attend conventions, some dont ,some people have a connection with the animal that is their fursona on some spiritual level or something, and some people just believe its merely a graphical representation of themselves without any sort of deep spiritual meaning. Even if there was a test, there's still people who would call themselves furry or associate themselves with the fandom anyway even if they weren't officiated that way

Takin it slow.
Yes. We must eliminate all autistic people.

I'm sigging this.

Heretics, each and every one. There is only one way to truly be furry, and that is to be born that way. ie: a cat.

That would please me to no end. I would like a test like that for all of my interests.

I would keep it to just mental illnesses and bizarre fetishes, though. I don't think you can judge someone based on their income or living situation. If all the zoophiles, pedophiles, extreme fetishists, and sufferers of autism were banned from the fandom, I would not lose any interest in it at all. Not only would the fandom improve greatly, but if more people stood up against extreme fetishists, the world would be a much better place, too.

Completely agree!

Fallowfox

Are we moomin, or are we dancer?
Let's see... People that don't have any sort of fetish whatsoever...

Hardcore Christians... monks... dead people... trees...

Paraphiles technically have socially deplorable fetishes, in which case such a scenario may well involve hardcore christians, a few monks, some dead people and a sturdy tree.

Oh deary me. The fact you lump Paedophiles and people with autism in the same boat says volumes about the credibility of your sentiment.

I don't understand your issue. There can't really be different degrees of being expelled from the fandom depending on the severity of the offense, can there? Yes, having autism is not as extreme as being a pedophile, and I never indicated anything like that.

So, what? Some of them we take to the end of town and let go tied to a horse, while others are summarily executed? What does one have to do to be sent to a labor camp?

No, wait, better question.

Do ever listen to yourself?

A handful of the people I socialise with have mild autism- or aspergers syndrome. It's important to understand that people with autism are still very much people who are entitled to socialise and take part in hobbies and interests.
Autism is not a grounds for expelling people from social interaction in a community; that's prejudicial hate crime.

Even paraphiles do still have the entitlement of taking part in legal hobbies and interests, despite horrific libidos they are still people, so I recognise I've no grounds to tell anybody that they can't take an interest in astronomy, anime, or paintballing etc because they're a necrophile or some other strange oddity.

The idea of excluding individuals from claiming an interest in furry fandom is un realistic, but the idea you would fantasise about this- and include autistic people as well as those you probably have a socially phobic response to- makes me feel a little bit sick.

People are also entitled to prefer to socialize with some people rather than others, and people who have autism lack self-awareness that makes them unpleasant to be around. I'm sorry, but all people are not equal. Some people just have no appeal, and these qualities can be attributed to a disorder like autism. There is nothing criminal about it. There is a point where disorders can be considered exceedingly disruptive, and forcing this burden on everyone because of sentimentalism isn't fair to anyone. I know a retarded person too, and everyone seems to barely tolerate her. It just isn't ideal.

I imagine you have such a distaste for excluding others because you have experience being an outcast yourself. I have not had this problem, so I can't really sympathize. If you need for others to be excessively accepting to not be outcasted, then you haven't earned acceptance. Appealing to others is not something that can be forced. There is a natural system in place to encourage proper behavior, and it is essential for progression. Forcibly integrating these negative characteristics into our culture is degenerative, and there is no doubt that the mindless sexual fixations that are plaguing this fandom have no place in a thoughtful society.

I'd much rather hang around autistic people than people like you. Believe it or not, a base level of tolerance and understanding are part of how we function as a society. If you can't abide by that, then maybe it's you who doesn't belong.

Wow, elitism in the fandom probably not uncommon (anywhere) but I don't even really think most clubs don't have such stringent rules, hell even country clubs aren't even like that XD. Wow Streetcirus that's a very shallow and insensitive POV and I'm sure you're the coolest person in the world but it kinda sounds like you're carrying a bit of spite with you.

Isn't furry elitist kind of an oxymoron? ;)

Hey. We don't let just anyone masturbate to cartoon animals! Got to have your standards.

What does having a criminal record have to do with ANYTHING on here? I have one, because i was indeed a 18andstupidperson once. ONCE. Now i get to deal with these people that dont want people "criminals" around because they think we are all tattoo'd, nose piercing, "dope" smoking, hair-do Extreamists than are going to kill them in there sleep.

Sorry, but that hit a nerve and i think that if i found a site that there was a test like that on it, i would leave and not even look back once.

This would have to be the first time I've heard of someone seeing porn so bad they suffered amnesia.

Congratulations? I guess?
