Just found the fandom!

Hello! After many years of internet use and drawing, I've finally figured out those animal things I like to draw are called "furries". For better or for worse this is where it's led me.

All I've done in terms of a fursona is do the quick sketch of a shark head that you can see as my avatar. I want a shark but am not sure what direction I'm going to take with it.

I'm pretty new to the world of digital art, which is what I will be focusing on instead of traditional.

Any tips you've got for a new furry? I don't know much about internet drama or anything so I'm a bit of a dunce in that regard.

Hey, it's another shark fursona! It's always nice to see more of those around instead of more of your run-of-the-mill canids. Welcome to this big mess of a family. Don't worry, the drama isn't hard to find.

Ah yes it is very refreshing to see another shark. All this talk of drama is making me worried lol

Yeah, I've got a few. The hug is your new handshake. The puns will happen, regardless of whether you like it. There will be porn- more of it than you want to know. If you're into it, good for you. If not, then you've been warned. As for the drama, steer clear of the trolls- your presence feeds them. If you have an opinion, you someone WILL inevitably call you a Nazi for disagreeing. Walk away, but stand up for yourself... even if that means using the block and report buttons. Finally, read the forum rules before continuing... and now forget everything you just read, since you will face administrative action at least once even though you read the rules. Above all, 6-2-1, your first panel is tomorrow at 11 am, and have fun (oh, wait... that's a con thing. Sorry, but still have fun)!

Hi and welcome to the forums. I remember when I too used to draw "animal characters" before discovering the furry community. As far as online-drama I have been able to avoid it for months now. I think its one of those things that you only get sucked into if you let yourself. Do you have an online portfolio? I would love to check it out.

I'm sure I'll have fun. I'd love to go to a con but I'm afraid of them just because of media brainwashing. Secretly I'm scared its one massive orgy :p

I wish I had an online portfolio. Unfortunately basically everything I have is slightly shoddy anatomy practice. My avatar is basically the second thing I've done on a tablet next to an icon I did for a friend.
