Laptop help needed!

So i am trying to make a machinima in Garrys mod, and while i set up the scene I am at 40+ FPS, but when i got to record, i drop to 5 or less?

What do I do?

Tha'ts not connected to the laptop, new sir.
The recording software must be either old or fraps like, taking tons of CPU, hard drive space and time.
Try using other recording softwares.
If it doesn't work, try to use a minimal amount of things on your laptop, because Gmod also takes tons of CPU.
Also, laptops are not built for doing things like that, laptops are weaker because they are portable.

could you post the hardware of your laptop?
when you record a game the tool you use for that takes away some of your machines power, too. if you have about 40 frames per second it basically takes away about 30 frames per second to record a fluid movie.
40 minus 30 makes 10 frames per second left in garys mod, thats not enough to make it run fluidly

try wegame, thats a free tool and pretty neat!

you just have to register there. but dont worry, thats only because the tool has a feature that lets you upload videos directly to your wegame-community account

To record sound, you need to be sure the proper sound input is enabled and set as the default. The procedure for that in Vista is to right-click the volume icon in the lower right of the taskbar, click Recording Devices, and look for "Stereo Mix", "Wave", "Loopback", "What U Hear", or anything like that. Right-click on the appropriate device and click Set as Default Device.

If you don't see either of those, right-click anywhere in the list and click "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices" to show the full list of recording devices. In some cases, there might not actually be an appropriate device - The program in question might have its own facility for that in that case.
