Fiction

Day 1: I've been hired by the Rockworm mining company. I'm not sure how the hell they came up with the name but work is work. I asked my employer if I'd be using heavy machinery or explosives, he said I'd be using a pickaxe… yippee…

Day 2: After doing nothing but training and getting acquainted with the others, I'm finally getting to work. I watched as the excavator dug out a hole big enough so me and the boys could get to swinging our picks. I'm surprised that the rock gives way so easily that I could almost dig through with my bear hands. I'm not sure what we're looking for, but if it means I can actually buy a house instead of renting, I'll dig till my bones crystalize.

Day 9: We've been digging for a week now and our progress is astounding. The support beams are reinforced titanium so I don't have to worry about cave ins. I asked the boss what we were looking for and he told me we were looking for Furrite. I read about Furrite in school. It's a rare and valuable mineral that reacts with the proteins of human skin, causing increased hair growth. Apparently it's being used as a hair loss cure. Unfortunately, you can't just rub the crystals on yourself because in large quantities, Furrite causes hair to grow inside the intestines of the poor guy who touches it, leading to blockages so severe that the afflicted need their intestines removed. Thank the Lord I'm wearing a full mining suit.

Day 11: No luck finding Furrite, but one of the other miners broke through the wall into some sort of chamber. It's absolutely massive and here's the freaky part, the walls are covered in strange writing. Being a former scholar, I've copied samples of the writings in my journal and cross referenced them with known ancient languages. I've got alot of work to do.

Day 12: I've been studying the writings during my lunch break and have found that it doesn't match any previously discovered language. Fortunately, I have found patterns in the writings that bring me closer to uncovering their meaning… also, John says he heard something deep in the mines. It's probably just a rat or something.

Hey everyone. I almost got myself into hot water by hanging around for the 10k. I had to bust my buns getting my work out. Now my money won't come in until tomorrow.:(
