He did handle opposition pretty hardhanded, though I don't know the particulars.
A lot of media do put him in a positive light, though, like Samurai Warriors (and by proxy Warriors Orochi. He and Cao Cao have some really fun dialogue together)

Nobunaga wasn't evil per se, but he was respected and feared for good reason.
Considering he was the predecessor to Tokugawa who eventually unified Japan, I wouldn't think he was all that bad.

Also, that's one of the plot points in Warriors Orichi, how Nobunaga and Cao Cao look similar and people mistaking them for each other. lol
