I think I guessed what the prize is!
So, if the last poster wins the prize, there must be some way of determining who the last poster is, no? But you can't just close the thread down like some crazy game of pass-the-parcel. That means you won't know who the last poster is until the forum shuts down. So, since they'd have no further use for it, and presumably no other funding to spend on getting a prize (since otherwise it wouldn't shut down), the only prize likely to be available is the forum itself!

Right before this trap in Ikachan, there's a sign saying "Curiosity killed the cat." That's one example.
