I should kinda roleplay too but I'm still bad at it.
Neither am I really, but the only way to bet better is trying it ;D
Remember the best person to roleplay is yourself (its a good place to start ;)

*screams* I love dnd. My wife and I try to “play” at least once a week. Though it’s basically devolved into general RP with sometimes referencing sheet and rolling dice because we can...because we usually don’t have the energy for full campaigns anymore.

What edition? I practically can tell you 3.5 without looking.

I've been doing a campaign with some friends from uni, and I love it <3
I love how my character is a dragonborn and I made it before I was a furry :>

Dnd is a fantasy role playing tabletop game (except for e4 which nobody talks about) there’s honestly only a few things you actually NEED to play.

A good understanding of the core rulebooks (players handbook, dungeon masters guide, and monster manual) 3.5 you can find all these for free on the internet in pdf format. I like having at least 1 set, and if you’re just a player you only need the handbook. Dungeon Masters (the guys running the story) usually do a lot of homebrewing so find out their rules and use them over the books. They’re more like guidelines anyway.

A set of dice. There’s seven of them but chances are you’re only using two or three. You’ll mostly use the d20 for rolls, checks, attacks, and pretty much every thing other than damage and rolling up stats.

A character sheet.

Boom. All the rest are actually optional. The minis, mats, tilesheets, etc. I’ve ran entire campaigns where people used rhinestones and graph paper okay.

Then you need a good storyteller to be the dungeon master. Just reading from a manual only gets so far. You also have to be able to think quickly and not hamper your players. It’s really hard actually. Most people go out trying to fight against their players and make things go exactly according to plan rather than being flexible and making a story. I personally don’t mesh well with these people. My campaigns are always plot heavy rather than hackemslashems. You gotta find a DM and group that works with your playstyle.

After that point it’s all technical babble and I could go on for ages if you want.

I had one with a friend that lasted 4 years.

The one with my wife is onto two, but her main character finally died. But we still play him. Only dead. Were going to set up an epic level with our characters being god heraldy things and dealing with high freaking level and god problems at some point.

We would need a good DM :p
I love making maps and things and running plot heavy games. Ive ran one over skype before and we used random.org as dice.

I just have trouble with groups usually as sooner or later everyone drops off the planet and nobody can play.
