I think you can also see it much more clearly if you bring up the fact someone is a republican or believes anything on the right.
A good majority of the fandom is left so it's always somewhat an issue that pisses me off when I see 4 people attack 1 person for their political opinion and I have seen this happen.
I have experienced this. You state an unpopular opinion you have 2 or 3 people on you at once and you can't reply to each one in the way you want to without some comment being taken out of context or being misunderstood because a certain comment was meant for another person not the other person who is getting on you for having an opinion they don't have.
