Another day, another almost putting my toaster in the fridge again. This is what happens when you don't have your coffee first.

Is it me or has video game writing become lazy over the last few years?
So an example of this is in the game SOMA. There is a bit of dialogue we someone says "let's see if we can't get this thing moving again." Shouldn't it be can?

Though a colloquialism, that's still correct grammar. Either one can be used in that sentence.

I did wonder that since can't is an abbreviation of cannot. It felt like the use of can't in this instance would mean betraying the intent to do something.

It really does work either way. It's a bit backwards, but the English language often is.
No it ain't. It's a contraction.
