All that and no one explained what pigeonhole meant. -_-

It's from a method of sorting lots of mail for one building, usually behind the front desk or in a back room would be one of these.

The hole are about the same size as roosts in a pigeon loft so they became 'Pigeonholes'. So when the mail was sorted each piece was put in its proper hole and not moved until the rightful owner came to claim it. So to Pigeonhole something is to sort it.
(At least that's the best I can do this early in the morning )
