My long-term plan is to include the latter in my translation business, as it pays better and there's a high demand for it in my country. For instance, this week I was thinking about how the Japanese tend to be full of "maybes" and "sort ofs". Say you're at the doctor and your back hurts, your response to their inquiry could be "I guess it hurts here." Docs in my region would be confused with an unclear answer, but on the other hand, I find that we're very used to saying "I think I'm going to bed" and "I guess I'm hungry." So, in a way, I can understand where this uncertainty comes from

Oh, that explains it! Regardless that's an impressive spread of different languages you've learned. That's no small feat! I had been working on picking up a second language in my spare time, Japanese atm due to how uniquely challenging and odd it is.
Regardless, congrats on having such a broad understanding of different languages!
How long would you say it took you to pick up your first second language, and does it come easily to you?
