Welp, I don't get what's so conflicting about having plushies and being an adult. I'd think that, as an adult, you're expected to be the one who decides what to keep with yourself. Specially when it's things of such an emotional significance

So to me it's more about being self-aware rather than discarding things like plushies and toys. Plushies are awesome, your parents need more plushie love and fluff

Plus plushies are normally cheaper than knives and necklaces ( I collect knives and I make necklaces)

I mean, it's relative, depends on the material, size and stuff. Plushies in general are not quite a cheap item in my place. But necklaces and knives, given they're made with certain rocks/metals and belong to certain brands, are certainly a whole new ball game
