It will take time and I'm sorry that your employer has been making it difficult for you.
Things improve over time.

I have never been through anything as serious as you have, an accident I had back in 2003 that messed things up a bit for me. Things changed as a result but through learning what these were I have been able to overcome them or found new ways of doing them. On thing I was left with was a heightened sense of mortality.

If you find yourself having any difficulty seek help about it. This is especially important early on to avoid creating problems for later on.
