I always hated American cars as their goal is to be produced the fastest.
American racing has always been Drag. So it makes sense for that to be their goal.
But I do agree, until very recently American cars have not been able to keep up with the handling of Asian or European cars.
Also Ford. Heck Henry Ford's goal was to make cheap mass produced cars as well!
What's hilarious is Ford came out with the Ford Probe(which was a rebadged Mazda MX6, and was built COMPLETELY by Mazda), and Ford came out and said that they wanted to discontinue the Mustang and replace it with the Probe as it was more reliable.
The goal was for them to be affordable at first though :/
Difference between Affordable and Cheap. =/ Honda was affordable and super reliable and why the Japanese market became so popular.

Sure, the new cars are more efficient and safer in every way, but man, old American cars... Get me a third-gen Super 88. Big, gorgeous vehicle.

I’ve always wanted one of those 60/70s VW busses/campervans, but mainentence must be terrible on the thing

Funny that the mustang is the only American car I like...

Not really.
During that time, they were fairly simple as VW was trying to be a people's car.
Once everything was refreshed, you'd have a fairly reliable vehicle on your hands. =]
I helped restore my ex's 64 Beetle before we split up. It sucked cause EVERYTHING had to be redone, but it was pretty simple.

VW has always had safe velichles. They were even the first to have a airbag, lock and I don't remember the third so I'll just say windshield wipers.

Didn’t Volvo invent the 3-point seatbelt?

I love the Mustang, wanted one for a long time.
But from the Foxbody to the S197, all the problems they have. NOPE. Not putting time into that! lol

Eh. Safety isn't very important to me, as I have project cars. Racing seats, harness, and halfcage/rollbar are plenty safe. Without getting punched in the face by an airbag! lol
-if you have factory seatbelts and seats, please keep your airbags-
