What you're describing here is called "Muzak"
The name comes from a company that made shopping store music back in the day, but now most music played in elevators, malls, etc are generally called Muzak nowadays.

Vaporwave artists sample a lot from Muzak.

If you're interested, this is a collection of muzak that was played in on cassette tapes from K-mart a long time ago.
The guy found a box of these tapes and uploaded them all on Archive.
It's pretty cool.
