Not so true in the US.
A lot of jobs here will use your online image to judge if they want you as a employee of their company. Based on whether your interests and alignments would hurt the image of their country.

In example, my job keeps a track of my internet activity. Fortunately, there is EXRTREMELY few things that have my legal name on them online. xD
