In the 80s we invented ways to not be bored. And music videos werent boring when they were good.

David Bowie, Queen, Elton John and other artists kicked it all of with highly visual music videos. Then some people thought it would be great to create a tv channel dedicated to playing just music videos. It took off way beyond anything they could have ever expected.
But with time and people selling there stakes in the channel the core of the channel slowly collapsed. Then things like Big Brother happened and the reality tv boom kicked in. The people in charge of MTV by this point followed this reality boom and it marked the end of what was MTV.
I think they should re-brand now as there no longer Music Television.

I remember the first time this aired on UK TV.
The video is a satire of a UK soap opera that is still on tv today (Dec 1960 to present day) called coronation street.
