Yes. I've seen people come and then delete their accounts after a while, leaving no explanation - doesn't seem to be very unusual. Furs come and go, it's always up to them anyways; at least I'm still left with good memories of a bunch of these people

so far i've just been doing
*turn autosave off
*break heart
*wait for meteorite
*if it doesn't land reload save and try again
It's a very slow and tedious process
what I was asking is if theres a more efficient method
