There is not a more effective method then just breaking them. What i suggest is leaving your money in a chest or piggy bank, and going and just breaking them, coming back if you die, etc.
Thats what i did during my playthrough

I feel you. I really do.. 6 months ago a relationship of 8 years ended.. I thought I'd be lonely for years.. but I found someone else, here of all places. In fact I need to get home now so I can see him... so hold in there, its cliché.. but things get better
