Looking for tradional artists

Ok. So i won a custom sketch book from an auction and i want it filled with art....Sadly i hate my own traditional art with a passion.

I was thinking of commissioning traditional art but instead having it drawn and sent to me i would send the artist the sketch book and just have them draw the piece in my own personal book.

Does anyone do this? Anyone interested in doing it?

Or is this a incredibly idiotic thing to think of?

I know it can be expensive and whenever you are mailing ANYTHING it can get lost or damaged >.> id brobably send it in a box and just have them send it back the same way >.> its just whats the use of a beautiful sketch book with nothing in it.

On paper it sounds like a good idea, but wouldn't it be a bit safer to have an artist buy a sketchbook to fill instead of sending of what you describe to be a beautiful sketchbook?
You can always ask artists in your state / neighborhood to make a sketch or two in it, instead of sending it to some exotic place and risk the fact you might never see it again thanks to the efficiency of the postal services.

Or (this is just an idea): why not use it as a scrapbook to hold traditional art of people you've commissioned and had sent to you?

I actually think that's a really cool idea. Sure, there are logistics to be considered, but, overall I wouldn't think it would be too problematic. I think your biggest issue, beyond the mail thing, would be making sure that your sketchbook got back to you--as in, that nobody decided they'd keep it. (Although, if it was full of art of mostly your character(s), that'd be a little silly of someone.) Because as long as you spent the little bit extra to send it with something like a delivery confirmation code each time, it's trackable at that point.

I'd be interested in doing it, but my anthro art could stand to improve a bit. http://www.furaffinity.net/user/bir and http://www.furaffinity.net/user/luthiennightwolf are both great traditional artists, and of course there are many, many more out there, those two just come to mind : 3 I don't know if they'd be interested, but I felt like commenting just because I like the idea XP As long as you were dealing with reputable artists and had delivery confirmation/tracking codes every time it got shipped I would think it'd all work out fine. The only issue would be money for all the art and back-and-forth, but hey, it could be a special every-once-in-a-while way to treat yourself to something nice.

I've heard of people doing this before and I think it's a fun, great idea. Just, as others have said, keep track of it. Be sure to always get tracking and be cautious of the artists you choose. I'd make sure you choose artists who have a good reputation and have a large online presence. Also I'd suggest that each time you get the book back scan the art..just in case at least you'll have a copy of the art.

True that.
Another idea is to get sketches from artists at conventions.

(don't mind me I just have really bad luck with the mail)

I approve this...because imagine this: you have like ten or more sketches done and suddenly lose your sketch book in the mail :/ that would be very depressing XP
so I recommend you too that save your book for conventions =D

and for what you want better buy letter-sized drawings and put them together in one of these http://ellapiz.net/ventas/images/LEFORT.jpg

but anyways if you want to try I would love to be a part of your idea :)

This sounds pretty dang neat!
The cheapest way to go about this, would probably be to make a confirmed list of artists to send it to, and send it out to the first artist. When they are done with their sketch, they send it to the next person on the list, instead of sending it back to you. That way, there's less to pay. c:

Also, I'd be happy to participate in this! It's like a big chain-letter of art. Totally cool. You can see some of my art on my FA page, if you're interested in doing this.

I have done this with a few sketch books before but filling a whole book this way sounds expensive and dangerous. But if you are up to it so am I. If it is being mailed between directly artists be sure to track how much you have spent so far so it gets insured for the right amount each time it is mailed.

How big is the book by the way?

You can find my prices and such in my latest FA Journal entry here http://www.furaffinity.net/user/rivercoon/ .
Good luck on your project.

This sounds like a really cool project!

Were you thinking of hiring just one artist-- or a whole bunch, and turning it into a chain letter type of thing? It'd be like having a pen pal again! :3

Definite interest!

I'm interested in the project, too! And I've quite an experience in sending traditional media to other people. xD
We might set a custom price if you're looking to hire just one artist, but if you're looking to having it drawn by many, I'd be willing to partecipate anyway and my usual prices will count.
Examples and prices can be found here: http://forums.furaffinity.net/threads/113208-Valery91Thunder-s-Commission-Thread-2012

I LOVE this idea! I've always wanted to do one of these!
I do most of my work in traditional medium, and I go to lifedrawing every week so it would provide me with a lot of great live poses to use. Pretty much all of my traditional stuff is human or feral, but I have more Anthro on my FA account: http://www.furaffinity.net/gallery/niny/

The sketches would range from:
- 5min 'warm up' (3-5 per page.)
- 10min 'warm up' (1-2 per page.)
- 30min 'complete' sketches (1 per page.)
- 40min 'embellished & detailed' sketches (1 per page.)
(keep in mind I'm a fast sketcher)

The price would depend on how many pages you want done.
