Losing Interest

israfur

YES PLEASE
I never lost interest in the fandom. Never want to really..
You don't have to be a furry to be part of the fandom you know, people could be furry supporters, or maybe even anthro artists without actually being furies themselves. So you don't think you're a furry? That's fine we won't judge.
I don't know OP, if you hate all things human-made then you're shit out of luck. If you want to leave a certain group just because "humans r dum," then you're gunna be lonely. >.>

Though you have to admit, it's pretty pathetic getting pressured into a furry group. =/

I ain't going to force you to stay. Did you make this thread hoping someone will change your mind? Just do whatever hurts less, OP.

Everyone seems to be missing the point in what I'm saying. I made this to ask one question, that's it. I don't want anyone to convince me to stay, I'm not trying to change peoples minds. Also...

Low faith in humanity actully drives a lot of people to the fandom. :I

Funny, because my low faith in humanity created a sort of...messaih complex, in which I must save humanity from its follies. That, or maybe I play too many video games with "save-the-world" plots.

I joined furry for the art and fursuits. It looked like fun. And then I learned about the sexual side, but the worst part for me are the members of the fandom that continue to drive down my faith in humanity with their inability to communicate in their native language, their social ineptitude, and their all-around idiocy. You gotta stop that people.

I've been spending less and less time here just because I feel that so many furries are on a vastly different mental wavelength than me. It's like trying to communicate with an alien species that's frequently overemotional, irrational, horny, and misanthropic. There are a few places I still frequent (like FAF and the stuff of my favorite artists), but I mostly identify as part of other fandoms and social groups where the crowd is more to my tastes.

Drift happens.

I think the main problem is that you joined out of peer pressure from your boyfriend. Being a furry is something you are either into or you are not. If its something that you're not really into, then there is no shame in that.

Q: Have you ever really just stopped caring about the furry fandom?

A: Yes there had been times when I really kicked myself for getting interested in the furry fan-base. Sometimes when I'm dwelling on the past, I wonder what I could have done with my time other than character art. At times, I have this desire to perform and show off my work, and the amount of time put into my stuff doesn't seem to pay off. I've been getting better at just drawing for the heck of it, though. Lately, I've been getting back in the swing of things, putting my video games down to enjoy my old, more creative hobbies.

Q: Wanted to "drop out" of the furry fandom?

A: I once wanted to somehow put my pencils and headphones down for good, for some reason. I've been into my hobbies for so long I'd be lost without 'em. I wouldn't know what would replace art and music. I have, however, been holding back on an urge to write a story. I'm terrible at writing so I don't wanna waste my time. I have wasted a lot of time years ago with story-writing, heheh.

I'm sure I won't lost interest if I keep focusing on "breaking the reality limit" by developing more scientifically corrected researches.

LordBorel

Why would you do such a thing?
I lose interest and gain interest in all things over time, as we all do. Everything is cyclic. I was way into it for a few years, then it kind of degraded to a background thing, since I was way more into gaming and computers, though most of the people i played games with and learned computer stuff from were furries, now, I went to a con and have a shitty computer that cant play many games, so I'm getting a little more into the fandom again since theres not much else to do, and it looks fun again.

Also, all people are idiots from time to time, even you. Some are just idiots more often than others. The best course of action is to smile and try not to think about it.

It's just a fandom. A hobby. It's normal for interest to wain. The only people who maintain a singular sustained focus forever are autistic.

I've kind of dropped being a "furry" mainly due to the fact I wasn't really too much of being one in the first place. I honestly joined out of peer pressure mainly from my boyfriend and other furries over the internet I've known for quite some time.

The main reason I started this thread is just to ask if you've ever really just stopped caring about the furry fandom, you being a furry, or just plainly "dropping" being a furry in general.

I still enjoy the fandom about as much as when I started, though I'm less naive when it comes to people meeting me for the first time and saying they want to be mates right away. That stuff is silly.

Let me put it this way. Furries=Humans
Humans=Humanity
I have low faith in Humanity because most people are idiots.
Humanity is mostly composed of idiots.
Which means Humans are mostly composed of idiots.
Which means that Furries are mostly composed of idiots.
Therefor, Furries make me lose my faith in Humanity. Explanation finished.
Most furries are indeed idiots, but because most furries are teenagers, therefore, immature people.

OP, you've said various times that everybody's missing the point. If everybody's 'misinterpreting' what you said, then say it differently. If you miscommunicated something to begin with, fix it. Not quite worth a Picard facepalm.

As for losing interest...

I feel like, as soon as I came to this forum, I became a little disillusioned with the community. But that didn't change how I felt about anthros themselves. I love animals, and I love the idea of anthro versions of animals even more. I don't think that's going to change, really. For instance, is a person who loves the outdoors likely to give up on them completely? Something like that is a part of a person's personality. Those who are furry for this reason may take breaks from the fandom, but I doubt they'll stop liking anthros.

Many other people's interest in anthros is based in an interest in cartoons or their silly nature, which isn't quite an integral part of your personality. That's the kind of thing that can easily change with time, life experience, and maturity. If your investment in the furry community isn't fundamental to who you are, it's not the end of the world if you cease being interested by it, and your interest is likely to wane.

I joined the fandom years ago, I was a social outcast, overweight and had a horrible homelife. I got my life on track and lost the fandom for awhile, but now I'm back, one day I remembered how much fun I had with other furs, I was practically forced back x3

You know, making hobbies into lifestyles is an important way that society develops diversity. It's what happens with professional artists, musicians, chefs, and athletes. I mean, by all means, cut ALL their heads off, but don't act like furries are special. :V

Art, music, cooking, and sports, are all all things that can be made into lifestyles. Furry art, C minor, medium-rare steak, and slam-dunks, are a completely different story to try to make full lifestyles over. Anthropomorphism really is that specific of a thing. But I fully agree, cut these people's heads off.

That comparison isn't completely unfair, but it is mostly inaccurate. You're equating furry art with all of the furry fandom. Furries express their interest in anthropomorphism through many media, such as pictures, literature, and fursuits. Anthropomorphism is a concept, not just a style. Even if you were to reduce it to an artistic style, artists and musicians specialize in certain genres like surrealism or atmospheric rock, which is much more comparable to furry art than a chord. C minor and slam dunks are more akin to foxes or wolves, if you want to use this analogy.
