Main site banner... too big (and other issues)

I got to write this...

Since adding the HUMONGULOUS banner, everything has been pushed down and a lot of times, it's "below the fold" of a browser. Uploaded art shoved off the bottom of a 1080p full-screen browser. Yeah, I got to scroll down the page (and my profile does that) but... I'm mainly looking for artwork, and I tend to skip hitting the "GALLERY" link.

Suggestion: Wrap the banner image in a <span> that can be affected by some CSS (via Stylus). Optionally have a checkbox that can be checked to expand and contract the banner.

Also, please run the site in Safari, especially on an iPad. The hamburger menu's down-pointing arrow will not align properly in comparison with Firefox.

Throwing this to dev. What pages are you referring to? When you view a submission, the banner is disabled.

Confirming what Luffy stated -- you shouldn't be seeing the browser on content submissions pages. We are working some tweaks to the banner and size, especially on smaller monitors and additional pages, and hope to have that out by early next week. We're listening to feedback and making changes.

I don't personally have any Apple products available to test, and since their browser is not cross platform, it makes testing much more difficult. That said, we will be making some additional compatibility passes over this week as well, and will be cleaning up a few things that slipped through.

The site banner is in a HTML tag called "site-banner" (and no, I don't know why the developers are making up their own custom tags that aren't part of the HTML5 spec, rather than using class names and IDs). It's not hard to hide, but you do need to consider that user pages and galleries will have content that protrudes up into the banner space, which will get cut off if you just remove it.

As a Stylus die-hard, I've already managed to do my own work with the site-banner tag... It doesn't actually need to be a standard tag to do anything with. (The name actually made it easier to work with than the several other generic no-name/ID sections.)

Does that include expanding the inner "page" to fit the page itself? I.e. no gaps on either side of the page when browsing? I know there's the CSS fix used with Stylus as mentioned in another thread, but I sincerely hope it gets addressed on the official side of things.

If you'd like to send me your CSS to review so I can see the changes it makes I can take a look into them. If it's just CSS I can probably work that in if it helps.

It's not my CSS code, the thread in question (where I saw it) is here https://forums.furaffinity.net/thre...t-fully-extend-to-edges.1682472/#post-7367563

The person who programmed it in question, is someone named Tharronis, but @Tolz is the one who made the post, all credit goes to him. Once again though, I don't know why it looks the way it does when it comes tobrowsing on a 1440p display or ultrawide, or mobile. It just looked too cramped, and maybe I'm a dumbass for being too laser focused or OCD because it triggers my autism *sighs* Whether or not it was "intended by design" as Luffy stated, it just looks...off to me. Many others have been vocal on Twitter too, sometimes it feels like our complaints aren't legit enough to be deliberated upon, if that makes sense? *Sigh* Damn... sorry.

I'm having trouble believing those are your actual unaddressed notification numbers. I mean I know those numbers are physically possible in the UI but it's blowing my mind to see them if they are real, even if my shock would be less if the screenshot was doctored (and based on the rest of its visual components therein, I doubt that anyway).

I have no idea who you are on the main FA site but I'm entirely interested in having a peek at your artwork if this many people think it's something awesome, good chummer.

Since the last time I hit the forums, the banner's been wrapped with a <div id="header"> tag, so I can apply this CSS:

div#header { height: 150px; overflow: hidden; }

This keeps the banner a reasonable size and lets me view more content without scrolling.

I like to keep my FA info anonymous on here (obvious reasons) but I can DM you the details. I had to use a script/addon just to remove the hideous page-within-a-page design. I honestly can't, in good conscience, believe that that design is "intended". It looks like garbage and claustrophobic.

That is entirely your business; I meant no intrusion by my position above. If anything I was terribly curious given the numbers in the screenshot, and I apologize if my wording or tone carried any further than interest. I prefer not to stick my snout into other people's private affairs, much less so uninvited or accidentally. If you'd appreciate this wolf having a peek at your work on FA proper and you're comfortable with DMing me your FA mainsite details, as in your user name or your page URL, I presume, I'd be wonderfully happy to accept your kindness and welcome a new furson's work to peek at. Thank you for your kindness in invitation and welcome, thus!
