I just got a new cd player that says it can play mp3 cds. So I after figuring out what the hell that meant I made a cd with all 5 SoaD albums on it and the damn thing won't play... any ideas?

Well, there's a couple of things you need to look at:

1) It's possible that the CD player will only play MP3's in the root directory of the CD (as in, no folders)

2) It's possible that the MP3's you're using are protected

3) It's possible that you're using a format that the CD player doesn't support, such as WMA, FLAC, AAC/MP4/M4A, etc. Make sure the files really are in MP3 format.

Ummm... it's a Philips and it says 100 SECONDS MAGIC ESP MP3-CD PLAYER on the player... sorry I couldn't be more specific but I lost the instructions...

This one sounds like the likely one.

See previous picture. Do your files end in .mp3 or some other format?

If they don't(end in .mp3), ask someone with computer knowhow to fix it for you.

@OP

I'm being helpful, but you're one of the people that make angry at the world.

Ah, that's not really fair, most MP3-CD players don't really come with adequate instructions for that sort of thing, and it ends up being pretty hit-or-miss with a little bit of voodoo and arcana involved.

Not a good attitude to take when you're trying to help someone, anyway.

@Runefox

Sorry for that comment, just was a little on edge this morning, sorry to take it out on ya.

Can't blame someone for being ignorant.

Yeah, as aready said, root directory and file format are usually the two cuplrits.

Still, I'd like to take a moment and praise the WMA/MP3 CD drive in my Yaris. Not only does it allow second-level directories (making sorting by artist much easier), but the fact that it supports WMA (which allows me more music with less space for the same quality) is throughly awesome.

The only gripe I have is that the random function, isn't.

Anywho, back on topic: one other thing is that if you're burning the disc with XP's built-in burner (drag and drop) make sure that you select "Mastered" and not "Live file system" when you put in the blank disc. Fairly sure most MP3 CD players can't read UDF, they need CDFS.

Simple, The CD you're using. Either change it or check the files you put on there. if they aren't mp3 files, then convert them.

Also, try to make a duplicate CD with the files in WMA format. That also helps.

The best thing to do is to get a CD-RW (Re-Writable). If that dont help, give me a holler.

@Runefox

Hun I think most CD players support the WMA format. The CD player, of should i say the format, is specially made for that reason. I link a site to a converter if I find one
