My First Furmeet

Yesterday, July 21st, I went to my first furmeet, it was at the same time intensely nerve-wracking and
incredibly exciting.
The plan was to meet up and fursuit outside of ComicCon in the downtown/Gaslamp area. I had gotten to
the staging area a bit and the wait for the others was excruciating, I paced and looked around hoping to spot the others and after the longest 15 minutes of my life, I see a group of people gathered by an open car trunk. I was unsure if this was them but then I spot it, a tail! My heart jumps, I've found them, as I approach the group I spot more fursuiters some already suited up others still getting ready. I've never seen a fursuiter in person before and now I'm surrounded by five of them and it was almost too much to handle. I blurt out an awkward introduction they cheerfully respond, at that moment I push aside all my inhibition and open my arms for a hug, Lea a big blue wolf obliges me. I don't really know what I was thinking at the moment but I did it and it was great I felt so welcomed by them.
We got on the tram to downtown and packed a good part of the car with furries, I knew I was staring like
an idiot at them but I couldn't help it, this was the most surreal moment of my life and I needed to take it all in. Leah was one furry I got to talk to a bit in all the hustle and bustle, he was nice and I think he hit on me a bit. The rest of the day was photo-ops and looking at the sights of ComicCon and a lot of people were really happy to see our group and so many wanted pictures it was hard to go more than 10 feet without being stopped. As it got dark most people were pretty tired and hungry so we called it quits and the group split up to head back home.
Yesterday was a day I had worked myself up to for a long time and my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. I can't wait to meet them all again next week and hopefully I get more time to talk to them and really get to know them. More than anything it has made me so eager to get more into the furry fandom because my experience confirms that furries are the most amazing fandom ever. I can't wait to get a fursuit or to go to my first convention!
Sorry for the rambling I'm still sorting through my experience. I'd love to hear on thoughts or your own experience.

I'm glad you had such a positive experience! How did you initially hear about the meet up? I'm having trouble finding locals and facebook searches turn up nothing for my city (Dayton, Ohio).

Well, I found it by Googling San Diego Furries, they have their own website and meetup.com group but seeing that you don't live in the biggest city it's understandable you couldn't find a group. I know Columbus is about an hour away but you're in luck, they have an active furry community on www.meetup.com with tons of events. Maybe talk to some of them see if they know anyone from Dayton. Also a bonus Pittsburg is only a few hours away from you so going to Anthrocon is something you could do pretty easily if you wanted to. Hope this helps!

Thank you! We have two regular furmeets a month. The SDCC outing was just a special occurrence.

P.S. I have my first furry crush on Lea. It makes me so nervous because he’s a bit of a popufur, he has over 8000 followers on twitter. I tweeted at him to say hi but he hasn’t been active on twitter for days. Now I’m just a nervous wreck because I’ve never had these feelings for a guy before and he’s so down to earth, humble and kind. I want to get to know him so bad. Just put me out of my misery because it’s all I can think about.
