Need advice

I know I'm probably not the first to have posted about this but I feel as though there's no one else I could ask other than you guys.

So I left college about a month ago now and I'm almost 18 and am still unemployed. I've tried looking almost everywhere in my shithole of a town but with no luck in finding a job, is there any tips that you guys could give me that could help? I'm pretty desperate at this point and time's running out for me.

Did you call back the places you applied to? Whether or not an applicant calls back is sometimes used as a filter.

Also, if you don't mind me asking, what were you studying and why did you leave? You're quite young so you could always go back. If not now then in a few years.

College in the UK is different to College in the USA. It's not the same as university; it's a thing you do from the age of 16 to 18 in which you study only one subject area.

When i left college at the age of 19, i was unemployed for 5 months. Best advice i can give you is: apply for part-time jobs in restaurants, cafes, stores, etc. You will earn money and keep yourself busy until the places you applied for get back to you. Plus, its an extra job to add to your CV. Just keep applying like crazy while working part time.

As far as studying in college went for me, I did BTEC IT and Business Studies Level 3 and scored a Distinction* in my first year for both and then just a Distinction in the second year.

Also yeah there are a few stores around where I am, I could try those.

Are you planning to continue on to university? If so maybe you could see if you qualify for any grants or a student loan. Then you could start classes and look for part time work on the side. Sometimes there are opportunities at the university for currently enrolled students for part time work.

Otherwise, I would say that the priority is getting a job so that you have income coming in, then you can work on the quality of job from there. Head right into things like mcdonalds, staples business depot, future shop, walmark, etc.. these type of retail stores have a very high turn over rate and so it is likely that you can get a job at one of them fairly quickly to take care of the immediate need. After that you can start looking for a job that you would rather have.

Dress nice, look clean and professional, act confident and speak clearly, shake peoples hand. Apply online and in person with a resume (and cover letter for good jobs), and follow up with places that you have previously applied to. Ask friends or family if they have an in for you somewhere. Most of all, just keep at it.

Have you tried looking into any polytechnics that do computer science or the like? If you enjoyed what you did at college you could carry it on at a university. Getting a distinction might make life a little troublesome but some polytechnics employ good lecturers and are simply desperate for students, it could be the way to go if you want a career in computers.

You have a car/live near a city? See if Lyft/Uber is available. Otherwise yeah, look for whatever part time you can find, while sending out resumes (I think they are called CV in the metric system). You have a resume, right? If yes, post a link and I can look it over for you. Also, get a LinkedIn account and make it look like your resume.

Even if you can't find work in your desired feild, it never hurts to look elsewhere. Taking a shit job can help you get some experience under your belt and help build up a resume. Other than that be persistent and keep putting applications out. Also call the company's you've aplied to. It might seem like you are hassling them but sometimes a employer wants to see if you have a interesting(besides applying) best of luck.
