@Flamingo @luffy I dunno... a friend and I got to thinking lately that we need to bring the old "Politics and News" section on the Forums back and resurrected here in some way.

I so miss talking about the "issues of the day" on here with people about things, and then chewing the fat about them afterwards with some others.

It was a very lively section when it existed; it was always busy and active, and was always interesting for me (and many others I'm sure) to read.... even if one didn't partake in the discussions.

Granted, things there did get a bit heated at times between people...... and honestly, disagreements are bound to happen especially if there's conflicting points of view or differing political beliefs.

But I also think that, if things are "dialed down" a bit in that section more (if it ever were to return) and perhaps be more frequently moderated - then it may be more tolerable for those that frequently criticized it perhaps.

Mind you - I don't think those that criticized that section ever really partook in those discusions all that much there anyway.... (but I could be wrong)...... and so, if it remains a separate section (like it was before) then perhaps those who don't want to see it or read it, have to.

Anyone agree or disagree? Feel free to post your thoughts below if you want, or -- take the poll.

i would not support unleashing this for the mods sanity

alternate way that might work, being allowed to post the topic to talk about, and a link to a discord or other external place to talk so that those interested can go talk, but not ruin this place

A general news section might be ok if it is well moderated but there is no way in hell a politics section should come back.

We've already seen how that plays out, here and before.

Can't even have threads talking about the Ukraine war without turning into a dumpster fire. Or threads about news media. Or threads about contemporary topics. Or threads about the weather.

I don’t think there’s having one without the other, unfortunately. The news people will most want to discuss (because it affects them and/or communities they’re part of) more often than not is liable to tie back to politics, and once one or two people make the connection the dam tends to crumble, if past history on the forums is any indication.

I don’t want a return of the vitriol that came with many of the news/politics threads. I would like a subforum where there’s an expectation of behaving and discussing like a whole-ass adult, personally. (It’s not exactly a secret that I don’t care for shitposting.) But that, too, would come down to putting additional moderation burden onto staff.

No amount of moderation would be anywhere near enough for a political discussion forum to return here.

End of discussion.
I agree with this statement as heated as some NORMAL convos in PAP have gotten therefore leading me to the abrupt conclusion that a entire thread geared towards pitting people from different political standings against each other would only prove useful in getting people banned

We're still seeing the aftereffects of when it was around.

I think that politics would be a bad idea because it would just cause fights, but I’d be all for news on furry stuff, but in the meantime I just check out Dogpatch press every now and then, cuz I refuse to download Twitter

Go to the politics forum if you want other people to argue with.

That's like saying "I enjoy the flickering light of a bonfire. Will you help me light this entire section of forest ablaze so I can relax?"

The idea may mean well, but it's guaranteed to snowball into something horrific and uncontrolled very fast. This is mostly a happy place, and history has shown that politics and news will rip that right apart and have people at each other's throats for no reason.

Well, thanks for the replies; I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask the question, and to pose the possibility to people on here at least...... if for anything to have the "public's pulse felt" about these issues on here...... as it's been well over a year (if I remember right) since that section disappeared, and so I figured perhaps opinions on it may have changed since then.

I understand that this is a "Fandom based" Forum and it isn't a political Forum; (which I've said on here publicly myself in the past). And on a personal level I agreed (at the time) with the decision to terminate that section on here in some ways.

But looking back on it, I don't think (in my opinion) a community such as ours should "go out of our way" to avoid talking about some of these things on occasion - simply for the preservation of "communal comity" in itself; (which some fear may be placed in jeopardy by allowing it)...... I think some of those fears are a bit overblown frankly; even though there were some heated disagreements at times.

A disagreement amongst peers (in itself) isn't always a bad thing I believe...... as they can often times lead to someone being exposed to other points of view (or other belief systems) that they may not have seen or heard before...... even though the "echo chamber" affect can be comforting to some.

And so some of us (at least) I think should be able to reflect (in some way) on some of these contemporary "issues of the day" (within the realm of current affairs) that may affect us all as a community, and not violate any rules when we do so.

But of course, the rules are the rules and we all agree to abide by them.

But in any case, there were *many people* on here at the time that enjoyed partaking in that old section when it existed honestly..... and so, I disagree in a way (with some users) who think and say that it was an entirely negative thing on here for us to engage in.

And this is why I posed the question on here as I did.

Mind you, (like a lot of other people) I don't regard "political and news" discussions as being the reason that I'm a member on here anyways; but it would at least be somewhat beneficial (I think) if we could broach some of these "current affair" topics in some way and not have a total blanket ban on discussing them.

But que sera sera, I guess.
