Nostalgia

Anyone remember the old days...could be any number of things. So many bygone pastimes and eras.

Things like tv shows, times when the looney tunes were playing on TV or when teen titans was around or back when pokemon was in it's first generation heyday.

Or when you played a game boy color or advance or SP, or the very first playstation...some of you may go as far back as having an Atari or NES (guess I'm not on your level)

What about old technology like the bulky computer monitor or TV and dial-up internet, MSN, and old Windows with minesweeper and pinball and solitaire.

Old music artists, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake and the Backstreet boys. Or back when Lady Gaga was this crazy new thing and Taylor Swift just started making music and Justin Bieber was an annoying kid.

Or maybe old fads like silly bands or lolcats or the rage comic days.

Silly...silly old things.

Of course, how far back you go depends on the ages of those on the forum, now doesnt it? :p

Raise your paw if you lived in the caveman days!

Who doesn't? I mean, you can be 15 and have fond memories. I get nostalgic a lot, and sometimes it can hit me like a bus. I'm going to guess by the examples you gave you're only a little younger than I am, but I totally get what you mean. Britney and Justin are still around so I could really care less, but do you remember Nick Carter? Hanson? What about the paperclip guy from the old MS office, or that really low "duuu duuuu" tone from starting up an old Windows PC? Yeah, I remember having an NES, sitting in my grandma's living room while my parents were at work playing Super Mario, telling my parents what babysitters I liked/disliked based on what games they had to bring over XD

But the stuff that really gets me aren't the things that everyone remembers from forever ago, It's the stuff we all forgot about. Fighting Foodons. Skannerz. Neopets.

Jeez, when was the last time you thought about Neopets? or Gaia?

Most of my nostalgia is lived through music I listened to in high school (most of which is awful and a guilty pleasure), and old cartoons/movies that I used to love and still do.

Nostalgia is a beautiful gift. It's amazing how a song or smell can recall a lost memory. I have tons of nostalgia triggers:

Ramp (the logical song) by Scooter - reminds me when i went to Disneyland, Orlando, Florida when I was 8 back in 2002. I remember eating alligator nuggets for the first time :)

Finding Nemo - reminds me of when i travelled up West Australia back in 2004.

This Love by Maroon 5 - reminds me of my first girlfriend

Nearly half the game for the PlayStation 2 have my nostalgia locked within them.

I remember going to see LOTR: Return of the King in the cinema when i was 9.

Good times

Nostalgia triggers for me are songs from 2005-2008 I listened to a lot. Its when the abuse started to get real bad and I lost myself in music. Maroon 5 - Songs about Jane - She will be loved reminded me of a time when I hated being a girl. Hollaback girl brings me back to when I lived with my dad in san antonio.

Nearly all of my nostalgia triggers is sound.

Mine has been games. Mainly the music in them. Maybe things like Headstrong and Out of Control could give a good picture.

I remember this old game I had called crash n' burn. I asked specifically for Burnout 3 Takedown and got this "blasphemic" title. I played it, more, more and more and let me tell you. It was and is one of the most memorable games in my ps2 collection. All the collisions races lost, the upgrades equipped, the customization and the fitting & amazing soundtrack.

I'm glad that I wasn't caught in Burnout's shadow.

So many things, every day. I think I'll talk about some of the more peculiar ones.

The Attitude Era/Monday Night Wars. This was the best and worst thing about wrestling at the same time. It makes no sense to be nostalgic about it considering it destroyed careers and lives and its fallout is still being felt to this day. For wrestling fans at least. But imagine longing for the days when not only did you have an irl role model on the level of He-Man or someone like that, but you didn't know they think of black people as n*****s on top of it.

1996. This one was a really good year. I had an obsession with gaming, art and music that was actually healthy after 1995 which was the absolute pits of despair. The difference this time was I had friends, and it was actually sparked by a budding friendship with another kid who used to bully me in the worst ways sometimes and for some reason, just gained a fuckload of maturity and kindness over the course of a summer and actually dragged me into a movie with him and his other friends. Literally no one had ever done that for me before. The movie was Mortal Kombat so for our age group, it was awesome and obviously we were already fans of the games which we played to death. The best I'd had before that was the arcades and that just isn't the same. Also that was the year I became a Bone Thugs N Harmony fan full-time and settled on my previous name, Wolf-Bone. I started doing my first serious attempts at writing original lyrics, essays, stories and stuff around that time too. It wasn't entirely uneventful but no doubt a much simpler, happier time with much smaller problems and I grew because of that and not in spite of it. Every year should be that good.

1998. This was largely because it was the year the Monday Night Wars were a thing, but also when I started letting my hair grow out and shape itself naturally instead of trying to fight with it and tame it so much. It was just so I could try things like dreadlocks and braids with less product and additives in the way so I don't ruin my hair as bad. Also started getting deep into therianthropy and furry, though on the furry side it was mostly restricted to FurNation and a few contacts I had on ICQ from there. I started exercising, getting more confident with my body, and I think I might've had my first IRL and long-distance relationships that year. I also got on really good terms with a lot of my extended family and spent a lot of time with them, if only for a few brief trips together or whatever. Last but not least, the music scene was just crazy around that time. I'm not sure what the fuck the record labels were smoking but if you think about it, it all really started to implode the following year. So the fascination with that era has a lot to do with cultural significance for me. Oh, and I won't lie and say nothing bad happened, horrible shit did, but it was probably the first year I ever truly learned from at least some of it. And drew a fuck load and became a lot better, for me anyway.

College obviously. That would be a damn essay itself.

Don't even get me started on nostalgia bro. Pokemon, gameboy advance, a lot of games and cartoons have a lot of my nostalgia. And even some stuff that wasn't really that long ago, its just because I've had a lot of changes, so I have a lot of things to give me nostalgia.

Hours and hours playing with Lego. Taking the pieces from boardgames and making up new games. Playing games on our Gamecube, Sega Genesis, Playstation, and PS2. Building "cities" spanning the entire yard out of freshly cut grass.

I don't remember much, though.

But, God, what some people may remember. I can't remember a world before the Euro, before Bush, or before the Matrix. Most of the people I know predate the Russian Federation, the internet, and the Simpsons.

It just blows my mind to consider what so many people I know personally and in passing have experienced and cherished. I'm curious as to how I will view things I enjoy today in ten, twenty, or more than thirty years from now.

Music has always been a part of my life, even if the type and volume of it has changed over the years. Growing up in a Christian household meant listening to predominantly Christian pop/rock, but that wasn't all bad. I still remember cars with cassette tape decks, and listening to Michael W. Smith in the early 90s. I even remember having asked my Christian kindergarten teacher if I can bring a Christian music tape to share with the class during nap time. I also remember seeing The Lion King as my first drive-thru film. It's nice to reflect on the past to see how far we've come.

Ah, the good old times of playing outside with other kids, then getting a NES and being amazed that I could actually play something like that. It was like, the best thing ever.

And the Legos. I loved building them. I still like them, but I'd rather just go outside these days than spend my days building Legos. I dunno, just kinda how I am now.

And the music. Man, the music today doesn't really feel all that special, but back then, I loved so many songs. These days, I rarely find something I enjoy unless it's from a video game or some techno piece, but even then I prefer the older stuff. I guess the music just kinda went downhill.

Oh, and camping outside. Man, I loved camping when I was younger so much. I would bother my uncle to take me with him all the time, and luckily for me, he was nice enough to do it. I had such a great time every time.

There are a few other things, but I think those were the biggest for me. The simple things, but yeah, still makes me very nostalgic just thinking back like that.

I enjoyed my past, but I enjoy my present just as much or more. I don't often look back and wish for days gone by, with one fairly small exception... a handful of video games.

NES and SNES era gaming, to me, was the very best that consoles have been.

Also, I am very nostalgic about Everquest 1 and Vanilla World of Warcraft. Back when you had virtual worlds that you played in and socialized with people to accomplish goals. Rather then the collection of mini-games that you queue up for alone, which describes the current state of WoW.

Old time like the 70's, going to see a movie at the theater and you have 2 movies playing. At that time it was cheap, the popcorn was cheap.

Today you have only one movie, the price is high and the popcorn is like 5.95$ and its not good.

The bus was cheap like 0.10$, now its 3.25$

I don't miss radio because it was the Disco time *berk*. TV got like 5 channels only (before the cable) and one was on the UHF band.

Not sure what else I miss. Hoo yea, now I remember, a kid could buy beer, cigarette and lottery in the 70's.

Running across older cartoons bring back all the memories, stuff like Robotboy and Chalk Zone or Grim Adventures and Dexter's Lab.

If I ever come across any old Saturday morning cartoons I use to watch. If G.I. Joe or transformers are ever on. The old conan cartoon/pirates of darkwater. Any time I turn on my NES, dosent matter what game. Whenever I start to re-read dragonlance, redwall, xanth, discworld, any CYOA book or anything by Jack London. So many things.
Nostalgia is such a bittersweet thing. Fond memory's of things that will never come again. Wouldn't trade that feeling for the world.

Nostalgia is a bitch... my advice is never ever try to watch some of the old cartoons you liked as a kid. They will kill your childhood.

Haha, I definitely remember neopets! Though I did get into it a bit later than most kids. LOL...and runescape, that didn't last very long. There was this huge hype on Tamagotchi too in 5th grade, along with high school musical which I really hated.

Heh, and don't get me wrong I never did like Britney Spears or Insyncny 90s pop music I just find it incredibly cheesy and amusing

And pAper clip guy was the best!

Haha, I know the feeling I grew up on tons of Christian contemporary, I didn't know what music to like as a kid x3 We were pretty big on newsboys

Visiting old places from my childhood gives me the best nostalgia trips, and it's crazy seeing how I'm much, much taller and everything looks so... different... and small.
