The existing rules say;
"Prohibited content includes erotic role-play, but excludes discussion of adult themes, provided they aren't explicit. "

While there may be some subjectivity in judging this, I feel the bulk of the posts in the fetish thread could be considered non-explicit discussion of adult themes, while the cut/uncut thread is probably getting towards too explicit, being directly about genitalia.
Could a section for adult themes within those parameters be useful? Perhaps, but I can imagine it would be a chore to moderate.
Hogwash. When someone says "wholesome moments" that has to paint a pretty explicit picture in your mind, right?

This forum does not need a nsfw section, there are many problems going on already.
Also having a nsfw section will not prevent having nsfw conversations in the sfw section. This is a big forum with few mods, asking them to monitor another section on this forum may be too much for them to handle.

That IMO is WAY too easy to exploit.
To be bluntly honest there's really no one reliable way to verify age. This is why some sites have given up and stopped bothering. Look at Pornhub. They don't bother with age verification. We enforce age on the main site but we're fully aware there will always be those who try to get around it. There are always those who try to game the system. When we discover a minor attempting to view adult content we lock their ability to do so. Credit card verification is often used by sites to verify age but even that's not reliable. Almost everyone has access to credit cards or someone who does.

The best we can do is make an attempt and if people are caught lying or misrepresenting their age we take appropriate action. We try to be reasonable in our approach.

You could legitimately have an entire discussion on how age verification could/should work only to discover literally every single option has massive, glaring flaws.

Looks like Dragoneer just shot down the idea for now anyway.
I'm also of the belief not everything has to have adult content. I'm not against it, mind you, but it's not the right direction for the forums.

Indeed. Hence my reluctance on such an open platform such as a forum. There is little interaction in general apart from the threads, and potentially DM's.

On Discord it works a lot better because you interact real-time and can use a specific role if people want NSFW access. That, and you are not limited to one location/server. People also talk, and are on numerous other servers, where they can talk with you in real-time.

Though if such a section is to be implemented at some point, may I suggest people who are 18+ and don't want access to have the option of not seeing anything going on in it?

Yeah you’re probably right.

It’s way too easy to find adult content elsewhere on the internet. It’s not really necessary to bring it to the forum.

Boooooooo :v

If I pitch it as a section for all contentious discussions, would that make it more of a possibility? For instance, it could be for politics, NSFW discussions (only discussions), fandom drama, etc.

Like I said, it seems like the stance on these kinds of topics is to treat them as grey area. That doesn't work very well from what I can tell, though, as plenty of people complain frequently about the arguments, the drama, and the occasional NSFW thread in subforums which are otherwise filled with light-hearted threads.

I agree with the point that, if this does happen, more moderation would have to come first. That said, I think it could be a pretty effective way to balance the kinds of topics that different people like/dislike, without inconveniencing the people who don't want to see these topics bunched up with everything else.

I think people should be a bit more conscientious with their discussions, keeping in mind that minors are here. That said, there's nothing wrong with them engaging in some adult conversations. This could even be good for them, in some cases. Of course, I'm not sure of the social utility from listening to randy adults talk about whether or not the prefer circumcised or uncircumcised penises is exactly constructive.

But learning how to talk about sexual topics in a healthy and responsible manner, I think, has more ups than downs.

You know what, I actually have to agree with Yak on this one.

If we have an age gate (and we do, PG13) we have to keep in mind that kids are going to be using this forum. If you want to post NSFW stuff, either keep it to yourself or change the age gate. Again, this isn’t something you can cherry pick. You can’t have your cake and eat it too.

What is it with some of you and this "age gate?" Do you think minors are so stupid they have to be protected from lewd jokes and discussions about sexuality?

These are fluffy cartoon animals we’re talking about here. Kids will find a way to the forum, no doubt, but we’re going to have to maintain a content standard. I agree that that would be easier with more mods but it’s something to keep in mind.

What I’m saying is that the furry fandom is especially attractive to kids and there’s a lot of fucked up porn and artwork in the fandom. It has no place on a forum regardless of age, but if this is a PG13 forum, we should be keeping it as PG13 as possible. Like I’ve said over and over again, you can’t cherry pick and assume that it’s okay to promote furry porn to minors.

Do you think minors should be subjected to things like cub porn?

There's a time and place for them to learn about these things in school and their parents. Talking about topics like that freely in an, I'd assume more explicit way since it'd be an 18+ section, is also something a stranger whom isn't within a well watched institution should be doing.

What I think they should be subjected to is irrelevant and isn't up to me to decide. The average person is viewing their first pornogrpahy somewhere around the tender age of 11 or 12, whether you like it or not. Punishing them for this behavior, instead of discussing its consequences in a rational and sophosticated manner, will only make them feel guilty and confused.

I'm afraid I don't understand what you've just said.

You pretty much just answered her. It’s not our place to teach kids about the birds and the bees. I can’t believe you’re really trying to justify this tbh

I don't really see the issue. No one here is having to each kids about the birds and bees. That conversation is supposed to happen around what, 6 or 7? If someone here is 13 and doesn't know that, that's some shit parenting. ;)

I didn't have that conversation until I was 10 and didn't first view porn until I was around 15...

I think it's more the point though that we have some degree of responsibility to ensure underage people aren't exposed to such content. It's not our job to expose people to such things. That's a parents and education systems job, and it's irresponsible to make such content readily available to the underage. (and also probably illegal)

How about Don’t Talk About Sex and Porn in Front of Minors

You’re not their parent, it’s creepy, and we already have enough moral deterioration to last the fandom longer than the human race.

Especially kids who are internet strangers. People who talk to them about sex are exactly why they’re told to not join sites like this in the first place.

Yeah, it's quite illegal to deliberately expose a minor to porn. And, ideally, they have those conversations with their parents.

Okay, I'm going to be pretty brazen here: let's talk about it.

Did that get your emotions riled up? Okay, good, it should.

First off, let me tell you where I'm coming from: A small, rural community towards the south. Basically smack in the middle of the bible belt. No one is talking about sex - unless it's male Christians talking about exactly how you can and can't have sex.

Is it wrong to walk up to a minor and say, "Hey, seen any good anal penetration videos recently?" Yeah. Pretty wrong. Is it wrong, under controlled circumstances, to talk about why this type of porn may portray negative stereotypes to, say, curious young gay men? No, I think that would be more appropriate.

Sometimes, young people are growing up in environments that are absolutely not conducive to healthy sexual exploration. They may turn to things online that cause far more harm than good - for instance, Pornhub isn't even age blocked anymore. All it takes is a quick google search and boom... you've got a lot of questions now. When I was young, and I tried viewing some porn, I thought I was going to hell. Would have been nice to have had some people to talk about things in a nonjudgmental manner with.

Anyhow, it is what it is here. Also, somehow I really don't think it's a coincidence three people who all say basically the same thing joined all at once. Know what I mean? o_O

YOU. ARE. NOT. THEIR. PARENT.
Nor are you a guardian or counselor.

YOU do not get to decide what is and isn’t appropriate conversation for children that are not your own. If kids getting the education they need really bothers you, become a leader at a youth group. Offer tutoring after school. Get a counseling degree, fuck, do whatever it takes, but a furry forum is not the place for that.

Is someone actually supporting the exposure of minors to sex and other NSFW content?

That's pretty disturbing. :x

I was a Boy Scout leader, in the past. I might do that again at some point. But, with as politically correct as the BSA is becoming, I'm not sure if I still want to support it.

Anyhow, emotional reactions like this (essentially, the screechy woman at the city council meeting going "BUT THE CHILDREN") are part of the reason why so many people are so sexually repressed and censored. Guess what? Parents aren't always the best option. Where I came from, there wasn't even any sex ed at the high schools. I never knew how bad it was, but apparently most of these kids didn't even know what condoms were. (Oh no. I said CONDOM in a place where kids can read it. Better file a lawsuit!) Oh, and teen pregnancies were all over the place, because no one knew how to conduct themselves properly.
Also LOL @thinking I’m three different people. You really think I have that much time on my hands?

@Ginza @Yakamaru we’re apparently just three kids stacked up in a trenchcoat of forum posting

Who're they?
