Okay, so I have a slight problem here...

Just_A_Tundra

So I have created and drawn so many dang furry characters. It sometimes amazes me how many I have done. So, what is the problem?

I already have Trisha, Tundra, and Zeex. Here is the thing, though, I keep wanting to make whatever character I am looking at (that I have drawn), and I'm tempted to make an addition to my list. I know I have once said that nobody needs to limit their fursona count, as there was one user that was worried about having too many fursonas, but I am now worried that I'm confusing other people about which furry character represents me. I had a discussion with someone in my family, that I have at least one of my own traits in each of my characters, as they are meant to show a certain side of me. Trisha is to represent how I desire a more attractive physical form, Zeex represents the isolation I often put myself in, and Tundra is to represent the part of me that wants to break the mold. There are more ideas in my head, but listing them all would take a long time to do, and that's kind of my point.

So would it be a bad thing to have so many fursonas under my own name? Should I be worried about this sort of thing? I am already a confusing person, and the increase in fursona numbers just kind of...I don't know...feels like I'm kind of stepping out of line about it.

What should I do?

Not really what you're asking, but I think some people just see the word "fursona" differently.

In my case a 'sona to me is that one character you use to represent yourself. Now yes, I will not argue with people that you technically can have more than one, several even. But in my eyes they wouldn't really be a fursona in the same way, more so OC's that one might use a bit more often or connect a bit more to. This is not necessarily the definition but to me a 'sona really is your identity or a character you more often than not lean towards using as your persona or identity. Everyone's brain does not work or think the same way so I can see how maybe if you don't want to lock yourself in to one character or maybe have issues deciding a multi-fursona approach is a way to go but I never quite got it. If anyone asks me, less is more.

I've stuck with one character for the longest of times, 'sona if you will, and they've always been the one. Nothing that really prevents you from taking several characteristics and putting it into one character if you're cool with it. I'm not sure dividing various traits and putting one in each character and then trying to use them or see them as fursonas is a good nor a healthy way, but that's just me. Use something that speaks to you or something you feel at home in character look wise and over time, your experiences or connection to said character will grow.

For me that sounds like your are creating a fursona for every mood/mindset of yours, but the specific aspects are amplified within these characters. I guess you have to question yourself what purpose these characters serve to you.

If you want to use them to fantasise/ as a thought experiment, you should probably treat them as characters, but not “fursonas” per se. You maybe should ask yourself which one of your characters represent you the most, and if none of them really fit, make a fusion out of all of them that does fit the most to you.

In the end though, do what feels right for you. I am not really in the position to give quality advice here.

I have two fursonas (deer is the main one). And this is absolutely enough for me. At the same time, I took an adopt for free, and I admit that in the future I will create other characters for myself. I'm not a writer, and I don't have an adequate reason for the characters to exist. I just think they can be used for drawing, they can also be used by my friends to draw something.
If there are a lot of fursonas, and you want them to be - well, that's your business, isn't it? You can choose from 10 fursonas 1 - which is your neutral (main) form, give her some artifact or ability that can change her appearance depending on the mood, situation, etc. I.e. in this case you have 1 fursona with the ability to transform into other heroes, each of which has its own personality and goals. I find this an interesting solution to the problem.

I was thinking about a shapeshifter too, that could solve the problem.

Now, I'll give you my two cents, just keep in mind that's my opinion and my experience, and it doesn't need to be valid or true.

I've been role-playing and writing for something like 20 years (I started early and I'm old, guys) and as a result I have HUNDREDS of characters and THOUSANDS of drawings. I'm not exaggerating. So... When you create a character you have some main traits in mind (things like "stoic", "sexy", "clever", "rebellious")... But if you don't keep using the character they'll be the only traits, making the character very two-dimensional. I always find certain qualities of me in my characters, good and bad, or traits I wish I had.

I don't think you're confusing, I think you're human - we all have many many MANY sides of ourselves, plus hopes and dreams. It's very hard to portray everything at once, it's easier to split them in multiple, more manageable, single-traited figures.

So... Maybe you're in a phase of really discovering all the aspects of yourself and you don't know which one better represents you, also because in different moments it's natural some of them will surface more.

I think a shapeshifter could be fun. Giving the characters some time to grow and develop secondary traits could also be a good experience. Maybe "merge" them together (not all at once, just two every now and then) when you feel you're ready and see what they become in time, what traits stick and what sink.

In the end you do you, have fun. But I think that a singular well-rounded fursona (or character in general) would be more satisfying, at least to me.

Kind of sounds like you're just sorting yourself out with these extra fursonas, so... maybe it's fine to have fursonas for different facets of yourself as you go, and once you've spent some time with or using those characters, you'll be able to narrow it down to fewer but stronger fursonas later and figure out which ones represent you more strongly

When it comes to fursonas vs. characters, I think it just matters if they represent you (fursona/persona) vs. represent what you find interesting (a character)

If you think you might have too many than it might be time for a overhaul (or to at least downgrade them to just characters).

Personally, I feel like people don't take the concept of a fursona seriously enough once they actually figure it out and I feel like that's part of what leads to some people just making WAY too many (though there can be other reasons as well: I've been known to have a lot because I'm just kind of in a endless identity crisis and don't know how I could possibly make just ONE that is all of me since I'm not even entirely sure what that is) that they then don't know what to do with.

One thing you could try is to set aside all of them for now and create a new one from scratch BUT vow to make this new one as much like you as possible (example: do you have brown hair and blue eyes? So does your fursona. Do you have a job? If yes, your fursona has the same one and feels about it the exact same way that you do ect.) without adding any concepts that are too out there for the sake of making it interesting and instead give your fursona a set of interests that match up with your own.

Would it be a bit boring compared to other fursonas that can shoot lasers or are infamous serial killers? Sure. But it would be the best representation of you in furry form that you could ever possibly have because it would be 100% you with no embellishment or worrying about if it stands out.
