Having been ejected by their cruel creator, five brightly colored otters had been roaming lost in a haunted forest. There had been six before, but the one known as “Dreamboat” had been taken away somewhere. They could only hope that wherever he was, he was happy and safe.

The self-appointed leader of the bunch, an orange otter informally named “Fruit Punch”, stopped in their tracks suddenly. The trees were starting to look too familiar. Either this haunted forest was messing with their psyche or the whole pack had been going in circles.

The blue one called “Winter Fresh” shook their head in disapproval.

(I'm actually interested in one, I'm just having trouble deciding which. Given how long these seem to have gone without an adopt I MAY even be interested in two. I plan to speak up tomorrow when I make a decision.)

Before the icy otter could speak, the black one called "Neon" lets out a loud static noise in alarm. Their vocal chords have never worked right since they were spawned.

"Who's out there?" Fruit Punch calls out, drawing up all their courage.

(Will admit I'm not sure the best way to actually progress the mini-story since I technically got caught... I am interested in two of them as I said. Specifically, Neon and Neopolitan. DM me on the payment details.

Just those two for now. If the remaining trio are all still around in several weeks we can talk about acquiring the others, but I want to give people more chances at them.)

(Alright, let me at least attempt to continue the mini-story, or provide a possibility how Neon and Neopolitan got separated from the group.)

"....uh-oh. Ummm... what are the five of you doing in a forest like this?" The dragon showed himself. "I wanted to test this little hypnotic device on the locals, but the lot of you scared them off."

He pondered for a moment.

"....wait a minute... this might work."

He took the box he was carrying and pushed a button on it, the box emitting a low droning sound.

 

[Doodle Bunny]

"Close your ears! Close your ears!" Winter Fresh cried out fearfully.

However, it was too late for two of them. Neon and Neopolitan creep closer to the box, mindlessly drawn to it.

Lovebug squeaked in terror, "Neon! Neopolitan! Come back!"

"Run for it!" Fruit Punch started to dart away into the cursed trees, prompting the others to do the same.

Three otters remain.

The remaining three otters slip away from that hypnotic box. As they catch their breath, the bright pink one, Love Bug, gazes out along the trees, hoping the other two escaped.

Fruit Punch noticed this and let out a heavy sigh, “They’re gone, Bug. I don’t think they’re coming back.”

“No thanks to you, Captain Yellow-Belly!” Winter Fresh spat.

“You ran away too, idiot!” Fruit Punch retorted.

 

[Doodle Bunny]

“Maybe they’ll be happier where they are,” Love Bug interjected hopefully, “We are meant to be taken and shaped by other beings.”

The three otters knew it was true. They were only half-formed beings, alive but not truly living. They were made from nothing, swirled in with paint until they became something. Their wicked creator made them to be desired— desire being the emotion she fed on to enhance her magic. Thus, these vaguely otter-like creatures now roamed this cursed forest until another creature desired them enough to take them and complete them.

Love Bug smiled at their captain, "Perhaps finding some food will cheer us up."

"Food?" Fruit Punch repeated.

"Uh... You sure we can eat, Bug?" Winter Fresh repeated.

"Sure. We have to eat. We are alive, aren't we?" Love Bug assured.

The other two otters shrugged and slunk off into the undergrowth. Surely, there had to be something edible in this forest. No animal would be able to survive in this place if everything was cursed or poisonous... unless all the animals ate cursed or poisonous things.

The ground around them grew moist and marshy.

“Oooh! We must be close to water!” Love Bug piped gleefully.

“Right. We’re otters, aren’t we?” Fruit Punch replied.

“So, I guess this means we can all swim, huh?” Winter Fresh reasoned.

“And if that’s true, we must also eat fish,” Fruit Punch added.
