Photo Editing Software

So my dad wants to make a photo album with the pictures he has on his computer but he wants to put captions under all of them. I was wondering if anyone knew of some good photo editing software that would be able to do that without making it look like crap and also be able to do it efficiently.

Not sure if it'll do *exactly* what you want to do, but Picasa might be a good place to start.

I can't own a computer without having Photoshop, I use that above anything else because I"m so use to it and I know all the little tricks I guess.

You might not want the $500+ (more plus) program and even if you could get it free it's complicated at first so I would just suggest something like runefox said, Picasa or something like GIMP for Windows (I would suggest GIMP because it's basically a simpler, free photoshop. Might be a tiny bit confusing at first but it is almost just as powerful as photoshop is)

heey newfey:p indeed gimp is a good program but it lacks a couple of options like pulling a strate line or creating a circle or square its more of a paper and pensil program in contrast with ps;)

I would agree with NewfDraggie Photoshop is an excellent program but you could also consider one of the corel programs maybe.

GIMP or Paint.NET

draw them with a path and stroke it
create a selection, convert to path, stroke it
create a selection, border it, floodfill

better yet use a program actually suited to drawing shapes like Inkscape

I don't see why a general-purpose image editor would ever need a tool to draw lines or squares; the target audience is not seven-year-olds using a computer for the first time and making houses out of rectangles and triangles

its more of a paper and pensil program in contrast with ps;)
what does this even mean

If you are just doing captions and arrangement, Openoffice.org Draw does this pretty easily.

And another vote for the GIMP for general photo manipulation. Download it, try it, and if you don't like it, you don't need to keep it.
