With all the money you made this year, you could have had a lavish vacation at any fancy tourist trap, but you instead decided to visit a lesser-known city on the coast. You were hoping the fresh air and lush countryside would soothe your overworked nerves, but when you arrived the language barrier made things unbearable. You had bought a translation dictionary, but every time you tried stumbling through a sentence you were met with blank stares.
You spent the evening wandering aimlessly on the main street, and that's when she caught your eye. You couldn't understand a word she said, but you certainly understood how she said it. There was an undeniable confidence in her every movement as she took you from place to place, showing you the best her city had to offer. Ancient ruins, food, wine, the sea; the city unfolded before you with her as your guide. Her intrepid optimism made you feel a part of this big, shining world, or perhaps reminded you that you always were.
You ended up at a small jewelry shop. The products were mostly modern, but she picked out a piece that looked like it belonged to royalty: all heavy gold with a single large emerald. The jeweler let her try it on. She turned to you with a look that made you melt. She wanted you. You wanted her. You didn't even know her name, but she had shown you how full of passion life could be. You didn't believe in fate before tonight, but now that it stood before you, you weren't going to let it pass by.
She asked a question, and even though the words were lost on you, you still knew enough to answer, "You're the most beautiful thing I've ever seen..."
