This is Kielder water a man-made reservoir in my old home county of Northumberland. It has the distinction of being the largest man-made reservoir in the UK and the surrounding forest (Kielder forest) is the largest man-made forest in the UK. It's a flooded valley, somewhere at the bottom is the ruins of the village that was once there. It was built to provide a strategic reserve of water for Northeast England (so far they haven't had to use it).
